You could always add new knobs and switches for each pickup, maybe a preamp, or onboard fuzz switches! Maybe a EB esque mudbucker on the neck, maybe a Jazz pickup on the birdge. You could also find a bunch of the JC pickups and add like 6 or 7 like Derek Smalls' earth bass...

I was just throwing fuel on the fire... But, to be serious, I would actually try it if I could find a couple of different set-necks that I could afford to junk. Wood glue is a wonderful thing. I certainly can't afford to try it with a Jack Cassady and a Rickenbacker!

And the piezos do require a preamp anyway, but leaving everything else passive. I actually was searching for a JC pickup, have never found one without the rest (makes the price for the pickup rather high).

This is now way off the topic of this thread! Once upon a time, I could almost recite that entire movie word for word. All 90 minutes of it.
I absolutely hated that movie at the time. 15 years later, I loved it.

Sounds like a really cool project, but I'd probably stop at just adding the piezo bridge and associated electronics; that would add a whole lot tonality right there.

True enough. Well, that's the first step anyway, we'll see. I'm going ahead with ordering at least one pair of dark stars anyway, maybe 2, and a couple of the hum cancelling inline single coil format as well (hoping he can do the "Charlie Christian" thing in the hum cancelling single for some P projects).
Once the dark stars are in, there won't be much room to move!
Though I must admit, this has me hoping I don't end up singing that old Golden Earring lyric - "Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?"
Just use plastidip spray rubber coating. Available at all the big box hardwares and auto suppliers. It's a matte and should be close to the black plates in the Darkstars. If you
don't like it, it peels off with a bit of effort. Light coats spraying closely gives a smooth texture. It's only like $7 a can.
*shakes head* This will never work, and you are going to ruin several perfectly good basses. Like that dolt who thought he could turn a 5-string Tbird into a 12'er.
