Here's my similar fretless idea...
I've been long wanting to mod a black Jack Casady by blacking it out, swap the pickup, scratchplate, selector plate and knobs of the White Casady (cause they're black, of course) to the black one, and then black out the rest of the hardware. Then rip out the frets, drill out the fret markers and lay in some black mother-of-pearl into the fretlines/markers, and replace the body binding with black MOP, too. Drill out the Epiphone script in the headstock and the truss rod cover to also have black MOP.

Well, ok, but your ideas are taking it places I just can't go yet (inlay work).
Thumb wheels under the pickguard is a brilliant idea.
Thanks, I just didn't like the idea of adding too many new (visible) knobs and switches. I think I'll end up with a 3 way selector on the upper bout, have to find places for one more, and the coil taps (might put minis for those right in the pg just south the pickups, though)
