My original idea was to keep it "stock" Casady, ie pickups and parts already mentioned. While a Darkstar did flash through my brain many times, I was still thinking "stock" when the black hardware came to mind, and then the black mother of pearl idea popped in my head and all the while I still was thinking swap stuff from the albino onto the Black-Jack.
Thing is, I don't need to buy, swap and sell the white one, 'cause I like the look of the bass
without the pickguard! I could swap out the knobs for a pittance, and an EMG or Darkstar etc for the pickup would probably be an improvement anyway. Then there's all the black hardware to sort ...
However, a blacked out fretless would need a fretted stablemate, so why not get a black Casady, a white Casady and do the blackout. Then the knobs and cream-coloured parts on the white, fretted Casady would have to be made snow-white to match the colour of the body.
Black Casady — fretless
White Casady —fretted
It's just a great way to deal with GAS, packrat tendencies and excess cash. I have two of the three aforementioned things; you can guess which one I don't have.
Alas, I don't have the skills myself to pull off most of my ideas, it's just some fun mental masterful-disturbation.
