Thanks! Actually, that sounds like it might be the easiest way to handle the chrome pickup surrounds. Unless I'd have to remove the chrome before painting?

Here's my similar fretless idea...
I've been long wanting to mod a black Jack Casady by blacking it out, swap the pickup, scratchplate, selector plate and knobs of the White Casady (cause they're black, of course) to the black one, and then black out the rest of the hardware. Then rip out the frets, drill out the fret markers and lay in some black mother-of-pearl into the fretlines/markers, and replace the body binding with black MOP, too. Drill out the Epiphone script in the headstock and the truss rod cover to also have black MOP.

Well, of course, should have realized, the pickups and stuff come in black. Anyone got a white they want to make white & amber? I'm nuts enough, but I can't justify buying a white one just to strip some parts and sell off the rest...YES YES YES!!

...and yeah, if I had the skills to do the full black-out you're talking about... ...probably a good thing I know I don't! I'm ok with the electronics and basic woodwork, but messing with finishes and inlays and bindings is well "beyond my pay grade" at this point. Though I know there are some folks on here who could certainly take care of it for a price. Hmmm. Well, first things first...
When I was a younger man, "too much is never enough" was one of my favorite mottos. Of course, I never had the scratch for the dreams then, so now that I do, I'm going to indulge myself a wee bit. Spending my kids' inheritance, but then, I never had any!
Ugh, I forgot to measure! Anyone happen to know the tuner hole size?

My original idea was to keep it "stock" Casady, ie pickups and parts already mentioned. While a Darkstar did flash through my brain many times, I was still thinking "stock" when the black hardware came to mind, and then the black mother of pearl idea popped in my head and all the while I still was thinking swap stuff from the albino onto the Black-Jack.
Thing is, I don't need to buy, swap and sell the white one, 'cause I like the look of the bass without the pickguard! I could swap out the knobs for a pittance, and an EMG or Darkstar etc for the pickup would probably be an improvement anyway. Then there's all the black hardware to sort ...
However, a blacked out fretless would need a fretted stablemate, so why not get a black Casady, a white Casady and do the blackout. Then the knobs and cream-coloured parts on the white, fretted Casady would have to be made snow-white to match the colour of the body.

Sure. I already did a test fitting with a non-piezo chrome version of the bridge I had sitting around for another project, other than the piezo wiring, looks very straightforward (didn't restring it like that).
Just got the ship notice on the black piezo bridge, already have the preamp, so I'm hoping Phase 1 will be playable by maybe the end of this month. Not sure I'll have the final knobs on by then though, will probably just use the stacked black pot & knobs that came with the preamp for now. Have to find a stacked 25K pot to double up the existing vol & tone controls on the 1st pot though.
