Now (as someone said) you have to hold on to it untill you get used to it. They feel strange at first if you are used to playing Fenders-like basses.
Why is that? Because the eighties and earlier rics are considered "vintage" and the 2000 and newer ones are considered..well, new?90s models are usually the cheapest ones you'll find

IMO, $1K for that one is better than just a good deal. it's a great deal.
