My New Studio Build (perhaps overly detailed)

Punching 240V electrical out of the north wall for the mini split and future hot tub. This will allow me to move forward with drywall on the north wall.
All the electrical is prepped on the north wall. I took tomorrow and Tuesday off of work with the intention of doing nothing but drywall. My wife is seeing patients all day, both days, so there shouldn’t be any distractions keeping me from working. I’ve got the remainder of the east wall and all of the north wall to get done. Additionally there are some spots in the vestibule that need to be re-done as my first foray into the world of hanging sheetrock didn’t end up looking picture perfect, and I don’t want to rely on mud and tape to bridge too large of gaps. I’m told that what can be bridged by mud and tape is impressive, but all the same I’d rather redo a bit of work to have it done correctly.

First layer of the west wall is finished. Curiously, as soon as I set the last panel in place the acoustic reflectivity of the room jumped up immensely. I had to take it down to use my hasp saw and clean up an edge. When I took it down the reflectivity dropped WAY down. This piece seemed to cross some threshold for reflectivity. The north wall is still uncovered and has insulation visible, so it’s not like a critical mass was reached when everything was covered. Night and day difference. I listen to podcasts and streaming radio on my iPhone while working, and I actually had to turn down the speaker volume due to the increased reflectivity.
They also would have done it in an area where you can buy a 3,000 square foot house for $110,000. I guess what I’m saying is that I’m an idiot, haha

I realized I was going to be four tubes of Green Glue short of finishing the north wall. They’re commonly sold in boxes of 12 for a little north of $200 plus shipping. Ugh... On a whim I jumped on my local Seattle gear exchange Facebook page and found a guy selling 19 tubes of GG along with six tubes of GG Sealant for $200, and as a bonus he’s just down the way from me, also located in West Seattle. More than I need, but cheaper and faster than online. Huzzah!
Oh! I also finished off all of the electrical outlet putty pads this morning. A small victory, but I’ll take it all the same.

Second layer is going up on the west wall. That outlet is the only one I have to cut in on that side of the room, so the rest should fly. Cut the panel to height, add GG, tip into place, screw it off, done. I’m optimistic that the west wall will be done today.
In a moment of sheer brilliance it occurred to me that my plan for the HVAC on the north wall might lead to a clearance problem. My channel spacing allowed the mounting brackets for the mini split and the HRV to clear, but what about the units themselves? I just checked and they would have been just about touching on the outer edges. No good. I added a second piece of channel (the one that’s off-center 2/3 of the waynip the wall) to hang the HRV with a little clearance from the mini split. Ideally the HRV would mount directly above the mini split for peak efficiency, but that would force the mini split lower than the manufacturer recommends. This is the second best arrangement possible, so I’m still happy.
