My Next G&L Should be??

The L series bases are outstanding IMO. The L2000 and L2500 are incredibly versatile as everyone here states. My current three bases are a P (Fender MIM Special), J (G&L JB5), and an L2500. A lot of basis have come and gone since I bought my L2500. Of those pictured below, it is the only one left standing (though I miss my LB and JB). I found flats (LaBella LTFs) really helped to mellow the powerful MFDs in it. I NEVER have problems hearing myself when I'm playing the L-2500 no matter how dense the mix or loud my bandmates.

I've got an L2500 - and its awesome. The pickups are fantastic and it plays very well. The EQ is probably more flexible on an M2000 / M2500, but sonically you can't go wrong.

I also think that the new short-scale Fallout bass might be an interesting choice. The pickup appears to be the same as the L2000 / L2500.

I've been playing only 2 years and now know that I perfer G&L's.. I have these 2 USA Models:

1. Lb 100 - Roased Neck and Body.. see pics... I love this damn thing
2. Mj4 - and I love this thing ALMOST as much

My question for this group is what final model would be good to add to round out the whole G&L bass spectrum sound.. I don't plan on playing metal, Funk or Polka... ha

Please advise and love this forum for all I have learned!

Here's another vote for the L-2xxx.

It can be a sledgehammer so, if you want something a little less aggressive, then I'd say go for an M-2xxx.

But, really, an L!

The Fallout only makes sense if you really need a short scale bass. As much as I love the look for the Fallout, the price is just too high. They were originally going to be just north of $1K but with the finalized price, they're more than the real deal, an L1000 which can be had for around $1600.

When circumstances became such that I needed a second USA L2500, I ordered the Tobacco burst one K-wired.

Or go vintage and get a Wunkay Hog B00 Bass with an Ebony Board.

I love G & Ls but don't own one anymore 'cause the 5 string spacing is too narrow for my taste. Having said that, the old L2500 is a tone monster with my fave passive electronic setup, and the 4 string ASAT is one of my favourite looking basses.

I also have 2 G&Ls, a CLF reissue L1K (Pharaoh Gold!!) and a SB-2 from 1996. I always forget I had a blue L2K around 2000, but I sold it because I couldn't find the *right* sound for me.

Having said that, I'm almost done paying off the L1K and I'm leaning towards a Tribute LB-100. I had a Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn P for years, but traded it away for a Skyline Decade. I wish I'd kept the DD. But, that opens the door for a new P and the white/tort/rosewood/block Tribute LB-100s are nicely priced../

I bought an L5000 in the early ninety's. Still have it. P style pickups. The neck has a warp that keeps the action kinda high but it still sounds great. G&L makes some nice basses.

I hear what you're saying and I don't disagree. All I was thinking is that the Fallout will sound different than the other two G&L basses the poster already has and that the short-scale is a different feel too.

Yup, what he really needs is something with at least one MFD, ideally, two. That's the trademark G&L sound, right there.
