Hey Lance. I am so sorry to hear that. If you ever want to reach out, PM me. I've dealt with depression my whole life and I've learned how to effectively deal with it (without medication) and I now help others.

This is a parents worst nightmare. Prayers coming. I'm not medical professional, but she need to know in no uncertain terms how important she is in your life. No doubt she has had a tough go in her life, but her sense of self-worth is going to come from her relationship with you.
Thanks for writing the update, Lance. Our "kids" are all in their mid to late 30s now, so we narrowly missed the 24/7 must-have-smart-phone era...just barely. We got our kids phones as they left for college, and also, as you have done, didn't allow them any social media accounts (MySpace was the main one at the time), email accounts, online interaction, or any unsupervised time online . Guess what...the youngest did it anyway, in public school, with the help of his friends and teachers. And, yes, he's the one that we later found out wrestled with depression for years.
Avoiding social media, especially for kids and young people, is an incredibly healthy thing to do. It's also incredibly difficult to enforce as a parent, when virtually all of society is telling kids otherwise. A very sad situation.

I'm so sorry to hear this. As someone who has experienced similar situations my heart goes out to you. Keep your head up - I sincerely hope for the best!
Your family is in my prayers. Search NAMI near you, it's a support group and here they offered a free 13 week class about mental health. Many of my wife's relatives are alive today because medications and Narcotics anonymous.
i've had two family members in very similar situations.
the wild part is that it really can - and does- get better.
either of the people i'm thinking of would not believe how much better things are now than they were years ago.
im aware that saying "it will get better" is quite irritating, but i do insist that what im saying is both true and from experience.

I had to deal with the same, from a very close family member. It's a nightmare.
When It go really overwhelming, my mantra was::
"Keep breathing, try to do the right thing"
Culturally it's "manly" to suffer such things in stoic silence.
And that's all BS - talking to others about it helps.

It's really sad to have to go through a situation like this, I am with you and your family, especially your daughter, she's the one suffering the most in this after all. Hang in there Lance.

I feel for you and your family. I have similar experiences with my own daughter, and myself. She will be alright.
All the best to you and your daughter, I feel incredibly fortunate that all my kids made it through their teenage years without any major crises, the social pressures inflicted on kids, particularly girls, is intense. My wife went through the worst of substance abuse and eating disorders as teenager and young woman, 38 years sober and healthy, thank god, but she didn't do it alone, and not without trained professional help in a full-time care facility. Hang in there, it will get better in time.

Sorry to hear this my friend. My prayers for you, your daughter and your family.
That's very rough, I'm sorry to hear you going through it. I have three daughters and a son, all great kids, but it's hard growing up these days. We've had eating disorders, cutting, a suicide attempt, just a lot. There is hope in all of it, though. They did all make it out the other side. Just stick with them.
Bless you, I have had my parenting struggles but I can't begin to imagine how hard that is. Wishing you all the strength to you and your daughter to work through it as best you can.
