My Wife Poses the Ultimate Question

Ultimate question?
I thought it would be "What do you think about a threesome?"
Same answer though, be happy with the one you play now and dedicate the time necessary to maintain her.
If the joy is gone, trade up and dedicate your energies to making that one your special one and only.

So far I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly with cornfarmer and KilledByDeath. If a man is the sole or main provider for a household, and the finances are being handled responsibly, and musical purchases don't interfere with that...why should the wife have veto power about it?

I love my wife to death. If it wasnt for her I probably would have committed suicide 15 years ago.
I just sold a 73 rickenbacker and wanted to get another bass. I have 7. She said to you really need another one right now.
It got me thinking... do I? well no, but i do want it and it would make me happy.
So now Im more stable and im not suicidal anymore. but after that conversation i do feel homicidal...
What should I get to make these feelings pass???
hahah I kid, I sold the ric and didnt buy anything.

ps i wasnt suicidal.

So after several purchases over the past 18 months, my wife finally said those words that we all really dread, "Do you REALLY NEED another bass?" Now I know this is a running joke for those of us with chronic GAS, but now I actually have to defend myself with a foolproof response (I am in the process of ordering a custom made J-Bass). I am seeking the ultimate stone cold, show stopping, mic drop answer to this question. I like creativity and thoughtfulness with perhaps a sense of humor.

SOOOOOO TBers, lets have it

What does need have to do with it? Does she need 146 pairs of shoes?

I always am honest with that question. No I don't need, I want. However, when that doesn't work, I have used these tricks:
Keep an eye out for empty cases to buy
Keep most instruments in their cases
Keep the total number of instruments a secret
Always have lots of empty cases to hide new instruments.
These tricks work great for guitar collecting, not so good for a happy marriage.

If a man is the sole or main provider for a household..
That's not what a marriage is about, especially if you have kids. I certainly agree that your spouse shouldn't have "veto" power, but it has less than nothing to do with who is the main "provider." Marriage is a partnership, doesn't matter who's bringing in the paycheck.

EDIT: And yes, I currently bring in the only paycheck. But it wasn't always that way, and it might not be that way in the future. Meanwhile, she is dealing with the kids and project managing serious work on a house we just bought, all while staying active as a visual artist. She has an equal say in all things.
