NAD: Ampeg SVT-CL and SVT212AV

Okay, yes, I've had these for a couple weeks now, but I wanted some of the novelty to wear off first.

Oh, my! Best amp I've ever had, used, or heard. There is definitely a good reason why these have been around since 1969! The 212 certainly has that Ampeg vibe, even though it doesn't sound exactly like an 810e. It's very close, though. I almost got a V-4B instead, and I'm glad I didn't. The CL is perfect for my needs, which include staying clean until stupid loud. With only a 212 cab, stupid loud ain't gonna happen, no how, so I needed an amp that wouldn't distort too early. It's warm and fuzzy, and simply gorgeous. Frankly, there is no sound in the world like a angry SVT.

Not my sound. It's a good cab, but too bassy, and quieter than either of the other options. My 212 is the only ported cab I've ever liked, and that's only because the speakers pretty much quit below 80Hz, so the bass extension is still well-controlled, and the cab never gets boomy.

Welcome to the cl club. Dang those things are awesome.
As to your speaker dillema. Pretty sure the second 2 12 will cover you for just about anything but I'm absolutely sure an 8 10 will. Think of the 2 12 as a set of twin 80's. Think of the 8 10 as a set of twin 100's with a 30' nitrox bottle for some extra head room , er , hang time.;)

Nice setup! I'm really considering one of these 212AV cabs in the future. I've wanted something smaller than my 8x10 that could be paired with my SVT and I think this is right up my alley. Haven't been able to try one yet (though I noticed the other day my local GC has a V4B/1x12 setup now). Good to hear it's not boomy.

Congrats on killer setup I also have the 212AV paired with the V4-B the SVT was way more than I could ever use. I think you can order a black grill cloth to match your classic.

I'm going to put the AV cloth on my head instead.

sweet, congrats!

Thanks

They're outstanding, I highly recommend them. In fact, I think I'm going to get another for the times I need to be loud.

Do you have all three speaker jacks hooked into the same cab in that picture? And if so, why?

Good question.
