NAD: Peavey MiniMega 1000!

Received mine this past Thursday, NYE and used it on my gig that evening...it was simply put amazing....everything everyone has raved about on here. Its a keeper. I do have a question for
BbbyBld, is the fan on most of the time...mine kicks on right as I power up and seems to be on most of the time....doesn't bother me, but just wondering if that's normal?

I think mine is always on, but you have to remember that heat is the enemy.

The fan should start 5 seconds after power-on and run all the time. You may see the fan jump a little when you first hit the power switch during the microprocessor startup diagnostic test.

Normally, the fan should run at low speed when the amp is cool. It's digitally controlled by detecting the temp of the 4 output MOSFET transistors. There is a heat sensor for each output device. There's about 31 speed levels for the fan, from barely running to "leaf blower". At room temp, I'd be surprised if anyone would be able to make it past the 3rd speed level by playing bass. The higher speeds are there for continuous sine wave power bench testing and for those 150 degree outdoor gigs.
 
I'm saving up to buy one, and I'm planning to do some lighting customization to mine. For instance, the front panel has 8 independent lighting zones, so it's theoretically possible to have 8 different colors going at the same time. I've always wanted to try that. I also want to try other stuff, like setting the top and bottom halves of the panel as complimentary colors. The LED driver chips are meant to run large format video displays, such as billboards, so the way they are used in this amp barely scratch the surface of what they can do.

Could you make the LED's go back and forth, like an OG Battlestar Galactica Cylon or KITT on Knight Rider?

Also, it might require circuitry that isn't already in place, but it'd be cool if the LEDs could function as an output meter: green, yellow, orange, and red showing the amps output relative to max output power.

Or like a rack tuner...

Actually, when you first power up, the LED's under the buttons do a sort of Knight Rider back and forth thing already.

I was tempted to have that option available as either an input or output level meter because the ARM processor that controls the MIDI and LED's should be able to handle it. I was concerned that this would hurt the noise floor of the preamp (managing LED noise is a PITA), and that some people would find this to be gaudy and distracting.

so has anyone tested one out on upright? just wondering how it is...

The mM input impedance is 1M to play nicely with piezo pickups. I always wonder this about my amps too since I don't play DB. I always wanted to get into it since many of my influences are DB players. One prime example is Chris Wood. I don't know of any upright players in my area to get feedback from, so I welcome input.

In my dream world, amps would have two input jacks. One for a normal mag pickup and the other for piezo (at least 5m), but something like the fDeck HPF renders the point moot, really :)

Yep, and one can make a good case for getting the loading done as close to the bass as possible at that sort of impedance.
