I don't think that Jonathan or Mike are looking at their respective uber-amps as mass production items, but I hear you... $2K is a hell of a lot to spend on an amp. That said, what I've heard of the Sonic Farm stuff and of JGR's (D.I./preamp boxes from both -- got to try JGR's at some length) has been eye-openingly, expletive-inducingly good. That's not to say that every boutique whatever will scratch everyone's itch (I've played $4K basses that did nothing for me), but if such an amp does it for you in a major way and keeps you from buying three or four lesser amps to try to scratch that itch, well, there's a certain logic to that.
As for serious gigging musicians, I know some who do it full time with not-so-fancy gear (for most of them, $2K would still be a lot to spend on a head) and some who play/record at a high level for whom $2K is a reasonable investment, in-line with the rest of their gear.
I don't expect the Minimega to take the place of a hand-built amp with all premium parts and a highly refined tube front end, but I am hoping for good things from it and, well, I've got my eye on it, for sure.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I've got a question that I'm hoping you can answer. Anyway, I played my fEARful 12/6/1 powered with an older Trace Elliot GP7SM 200 this weekend. This was my first time using any other amp besides an EBS Reidmar and a few other Class-D micros. I absolutely loved the thick, fat and full bottom end I got from it, just didn't care for the weight of the amp. Through following the main MiniMega thread I got the impression that the Peavey designed Class-D power section is to be able to get that thicker, fatter, fuller bottom end. Do you find this to be the case when pushing your fEARful/less cabs? Can I get that huge bottom end that eludes most micros? Thanks for your input.
I do think at this price point that the MM will steal a bit of Mesa's Thunder if you will since many will think saving $100-$200 dollars significant. That is of course if they aren't already died in the wool Mesa fanboys.
You are probably right. The Peavey looks cool and great value. For me, however, an unapologetic Mesa fanboy, it won't change things, especially since I am a "vintage" gent in some ways, and avoiding bass amps (and other products) with digital readouts and sub-menus (whenever feasible) is one of my faults/features
. The Berg head turns me off for the same reason. I love Peavey's chicken head knobs! Happy thumpin'.
OK -- now we REALLY need to set up a time to blast some different amps & cabs.

I figure this gives me something easy to grab with my F212. The Reiner Pre and 3.0 is amazing, but it isnt light/small really.
Yeah, I did figure that might be the case and actually added an -er to "small" before posting. You don't happen to own or have access to a truly small cab, like the Chopshop 110 you reviewed last year?
Right now, nothing that small in my arsenal, but I am going to a drive down to visit Dave Homer at Gigmaster later this week. He might have something in the shop or as a demo cab to try that is small. Right now I only have 3 cabs. 1515/66/1, DuallyT, F212.

A couple stupid questions:
What does the "punch" switch do?
How loud is the fan? When I had a GK MB800, the fan would normally be entirely off, but when it came on it was jet engine like. My GB ShuttleMax's fan is always on, but very quiet. I personally find quiet but always on to be much less annoying, but that's just me.

It is a mid bass boost like I have on my VIII XP.
Mine seems to be always on... but honestly I dont notice it coming on faster or anything. I dont play quiet enough for it to be heard.
I have a Carvin 115 and my DIY 212 that could illustrate the effect with "mere mortal" style cabs.
And closer than Hickory Corners...
I have to go down there to pick up a new cab.
As soon as I get my combustion back, I will be over with a slew of gear.
So as to not derail this thread, is there another thread where you discuss said new cab?
Nah... It is a guitar 212. Trying to pick up some more skinny string practice time.

To really get a sense of what the Kosmos feature is doing, I think you'll need to step away from any of the 'superbuilds' no matter how compact and try with a compact production cab to get a real sense, or if someone has say, one of the old Schroeders around or something.
