Double Bass Naming your Bass? (DB forum thread)

Years ago I worked with a guitarist who liked naming instruments, and he started calling my blonde upright Marilyn. Then my M-5 fell over on a gig, and while the bridge fell and there was a lot of noise, nothing broke. After that he called it Crash. Those names still go through my head sometimes, though I don't use them myself.

When I bought my upright, the previous owner told me it's name was Katie, but I just call it "The Big Black Bass"

This must be a BG thing? My bass doesn't have a name . For what? If I call it it won't come.

Read my post again, did you see any BG content?

No, you did not. ;)

People name boats/ships, cars, guns, motorcycles, planes ... and all manner of things. For what? They won't come if you call them. Get over it.

I've named you, too, now — but it's too vulgar to repeat here.

Come to think of it, my other two DBs do have names — one's called Shen and the other Toyama.

:)

Yikes! Touchy aren't we? It was just a joke
But you're right. I didn't read your post. I read the first three or four which were BGs with photos, and then scrolled down to the last post in the queue, which just happened to be yours, to make my comment. It wasn't directed towards you or any other individual.

My Kay double bass is "Grandpa". My father bought it for me after years and years of telling me I needed to do something other than play music. He was my father, but was known as Grandpa the last 15 years of his life due to my nieces.

I have a fiesta red jazz that was stolen and became known as FiestaFred during the 7 years he was gone. Got him back last year. :)

Sorry,no pics.
