NBBD - They sent me the wrong bass!

No, you are not the only one. I've even received a PM asking if I was joking or serious. So here it is, for the record:
This is a joke. I did in fact order an MTD; it just arrived in a Fender box. My first thought upon receiving it was "There better be an MTD in there!". Thus, that became the theme for this posting. My apologies if anyone thought I was being serious.

Sooooo, I ordered a bass for my birthday; 65 this weekend (first person to call me a Senior Citizen gets a silver sneaker up their a$$). Everything seems okay, at first. I mean, you can see from the picture that it clearly says "Fender" on the box, right?

That's right, they sent me an MTD 535 instead! I'm outraged! Outraged, I say! I mean, I guess in hindsight this does explain why the bass was more expensive than I expected, but I figured it was because shipping has gotten so pricey lately.
And then I read the description and it gets even worse! Mahogany body, tiger myrtle top, maple neck with morado fingerboard, new proprietary MTD bridge, pickups, and preamp. Ugh!
I guess I'll have to keep it.

Bartolini still makes the pickups and electronics, but it's proprietary in that they are made exclusively for MTD. I don't believe you can purchase these directly from Bartolini.
When I spoke with Michael Tobias about this bass, he said the tone stack is very different from the classic 535 sound. A bit darker, less pronounced highs. The mid shift on this is at 400 and 800, not the 250/500/1k shift we all know and love. And his description was correct. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of top-end, and the 400/800 shift is actually more to my liking. What really makes this bass work are the quad-coil pickups, each of which is switchable between series, parallel, and single coil. The tonal range is huge, from very modern to very traditional.
I was contemplating a custom build with specs very close to this that would hopefully arrive by my 66th birthday, but I saw this and heard the demo I decided to go for it.
That's very interesting. I just got rid of a gorgeous 2014 MTD 535-24 last week. I loved the bass. It had the most amazing neck. But it was over 10lb and the highs sizzled. I was constantly rolling back the tone control. This sounds like something I might need to look into (as long as they can assist with weight reduction... lol).
Maybe in 40 or 50 years. Ive been surprised when ive listed 10 year old basses with every speck and molecule that it came with, the stickers, the books, the strap, the cable, all untouched and factory sealed, very minty- and no buyer cared, not one considered a premium price on the product for it- in fact, was told more than once, that I can 'keep the case candy". So if you consider original shipping box and case candy- you'll most likely need to wait over 30 years before buyers start to say 'oh really, wow!' and even then, you'll be looking at a mild price bump
I think I know what happened here. You had the intention of ordering a Fender but I guess somehow you managed to order an MTD unknowingly until you realized that you did once the bass had arrived?

it’s not a fender but I can live with it if they threw in a free strap or something.
