NBBD - They sent me the wrong bass!

No, you are not the only one. I've even received a PM asking if I was joking or serious. So here it is, for the record:

This is a joke. I did in fact order an MTD; it just arrived in a Fender box. My first thought upon receiving it was "There better be an MTD in there!". Thus, that became the theme for this posting. My apologies if anyone thought I was being serious.

:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: My NB's are black. So there!

Hokas for both street and trail running.

No need to apologize for clever humor. If people are unable to follow the first 10 posts and still not get it...

Ha Ha! I like the alibi line. I tell my friends that when I die to help my wife sell my stuff so she doesn’t sell it for what I told her I paid for it.

You must have loyal friends, who really care about you and your wife (upon your departure). Mine would probably buy them all from her, "So how much did he say this one cost? I'll give you what he paid for it." :woot: :woot:

New Birthday Bass Day!

Sooooo, I ordered a bass for my birthday; 65 this weekend (first person to call me a Senior Citizen gets a silver sneaker up their a$$). Everything seems okay, at first. I mean, you can see from the picture that it clearly says "Fender" on the box, right?

I guess I'll have to keep it.

Seriously, it plays, sounds, and feels amazing! I'm pretty darn happy.

Whatever it takes to make the significant other ok with it. ;)

But when I open it up, I find this inside! :wideyed:

That's right, they sent me an MTD 535 instead! I'm outraged! Outraged, I say! I mean, I guess in hindsight this does explain why the bass was more expensive than I expected, but I figured it was because shipping has gotten so pricey lately. ;)

And then I read the description and it gets even worse! Mahogany body, tiger myrtle top, maple neck with morado fingerboard, new proprietary MTD bridge, pickups, and preamp. Ugh!

I guess I'll have to keep it.

so this makes me think of a question of ethics..lets say you order a bass that is lets say a squire of whatever model and you get a modulus or something of far more value...do you ship the bass back telling them they made a mistake or do you keep and thank your lucky stars for the good fortune that has been bestowed upon you and keep the bass and write it off to good karma for something you did for someone else sometime in the past...

I had a friend that ordered a bose wave radio cd player back when they were hot and the new thing..well he waited and waited and it never came..so he called up bose and told them he never got it...they said hmmm well we will send you another one. So while the new one was being shipped his neighbor called him up and said hey I think there is a package that belongs to you on my porch..its a downstairs neighbor in a duplex...he goes down and there is his bose radio...then the second one arrives...I told my buddy well hey, you wanna sell me one of those cheap. lol he says I can't..I sent one back to bose...I was like no way..you did? he said yeah...I couldn't believe it..but that was the kind of guy he was, honest and had integrity...I can't say I would of shipped it back..in fact I'm pretty sure I would of kept it justifying it by thinking, bose makes these things for a fraction of what they sell for, and this is just a write off anyway...lol...

If you didn't order it, it's not yours and you should send it back. If a company loses money, they raise prices.

I ordered a couple of little things from Sweetwater (strap, strap locks, and a gig bag). I came home to find 3 boxes. One box contained all of the stuff I ordered. The other boxes contained some studio monitors, Mogami cables, and an interface. I called Sweetwater and they had no record of those items. I told them I would donate them to the needy (maybe a local HS or something) if they don't take them back. They sent an RMA and I sent them back.

The right thing to do is the right thing to do and honesty is the right thing... no matter what. Don't add bad karma to your life. Not worth it.

PS. To the OP, that's a beautiful bass! Enjoy and Happy Birthday!

So have you ever considered the fact that this MTD maybe just wanted to spend the remainder of its years in some bucolic place, enjoying retirement? Keep it and show it a good home.

I still remember the weekend I was testing out basses. I had just purchased a Smith 5-string from Huber & Breese, and had a MTD shipped to my house to test out. That weekend I took both down to folks place where we have a place that my cousins & friends could jam out undisturbed for hours (well, days). By the end of the evening, when my friends (much younger musicians without the deep pockets this single engineer with no mortgage or children to worry about) realized how much in basses I was slugging around, they really wanted to know which one I was going to keep (the pockets weren't THAT deep). I ended up keeping the Smith, which I still have, but that swamp ash MTD that I had gotten was really nice.

Of course, the Smith may have led me to some of the back pain that took me to chiropractic school eventually, but that's another rabbit hole for another day...

I ordered a case one time and either UPS or FedEx dropped it on my porch with no signature or knock on my door. Plus my 3 dogs didn’t bark. Anyhow I wife grabbed the box and said man this thing is heavy. It was so I opened it and instead of my case there was a MusicMan case. Inside was a brand new StingRay. Had the correct owners receipt in the case so I called and said you don’t know me but did you get an empty case? He was panicked and said yes. Told him I got his bass then called the store and made arrangements to make things right. I did get a pack of strings and a T Shirt for being honest.

PS: I did give it a good play before packing it back up! Lol
