Should be a crime selling this bass for $75!View attachment 4410235 This Peavey T-40 popped up locally so I inquired, looked at it and bought it. Good to very good condition for it’s age, all original, original owner as well. Everything works, no cracks, nothing missing. Truss rod was never adjusted during its life, it dialed in fine. Action still a tad high but not bad at all. It sounds fantastic, not sure why, I know zero about the pups but it makes some great sound from both the bridge and neck.
I had to make a custom socket(thinned the crap out of it)on my bench grinder to turn the truss rod nut. Im not gonna mess with the micro tilt, I’ve read it can be an issue or cause issues. For a whopping $75 bucks I think it’s a great sounding beast.
Maybe your seller just divorced the actual owner of your new T-40, and wanted it to be out of his/her life. You got what has to be the score of the century. I bought mine used 35 years ago for $175.00, and if you check the prices today, they are selling for much much more. Enjoy!!

Mine is a 1979 model also (headstock text states Patents Applied For - a PAF 1979 model) and I paid $600AUD for mine 3 years ago here in Australia. (APPROX $400USD + BACK IN 2018). Great bass guitar and boy did you ever score the event of the century for the $75 you paid. As others have said check out the T-40 forums for tone settings..they are unique to the T-40 bass. Congrats on a great purchase. Mine pictured below.

I’d told myself that the only thing keeping me from closing the transaction was a filed off serial number (as there were no shots of the serial number in the listing). Well, that and @shnapper snapping it up first. Glad to see the serial number is intact.
I have a nice 1980 T-40 that I picked up a few years ago for $375+$50 shipping just as list prices started to double that number. It’s a great bass. Definitely inspired to pull it out today.

second, P-40s are the weirdest basses I've encountered, a real buyer beware love / hate thing, they can go for $0 to some say $800, they're revered and loathed, a boat anchor which gets an eternal pass by many and the Swiss pocketknife of basses that may miss the mark completely.
I saw one much like this natural beauty in dead mint condition by a guy who'd just had it given to him, complete with case like it came out of the factory. AND, it was light as a feather. it happens.
the one I fell for is a gorgeous burst clunker with a built in ICK! sound that permeates every setting negatively, I hope mine is a freak and nobody else encounters this mess. it'll be modded to taste.
Peavey necks are typically superb so that's half the battle won, top quality. good luck with it!

It’s not mint, pics don’t show the wear & tear here and there. For its age it’s in great shape… Like I said I was looking for something inexpensive to work on IF it needed fixing, turns out it’s good to go with the typical “set up” tweaks.
Honestly I had no idea it’s value, I just wanted a peavey to go with this older 450 max half stack I bought for $100
So I’m into the above rig & bass for $340
New strings, Both volumes dimed, neck pickup tone on about 6, bridge tone dimed. Make sure the back phase switch is in phase (easy to tell by listening). You can thank me later.
