Like I said above, and this isn't intended to sound snarky, this isn't for band playing. It will be a solo instrument. You can call it whatever, but it's tuned like a bass, so...that's what I'm gonna call it. You can call it anything you want, that's fine. The low C# is bad for some speakers, yes. But I hear it, I like it, it's all in good fun. I'm not pushing some acceptance campaign, I'm just happy to have this.OK, I know you said no ERB hate, so no hate - just IMO, it's no longer a bass. I can't even process the lowest note on that thing in my brain + it will blow up most speakers, no? You can't say that you could show up a gig with that thing and be serious. There are BL's who flip out if you don't show up with a Fender - or at least something that resembles a Fender - and those are the same guys that don't want to even see you playing a 5 or 6! So, it really becomes a whole different thing - Bass Soloist / Bass Artist etc. IMO of course - no hate. I remember a few years ago - not even sure when, but I started seeing these creations at NAMM show and I'll watch the guy play for a minute, but always end up thinking - nope - not for me - I play conventional bass - 4 and 5 string - and that's what floats my boat.
Oh and nobody else has asked, so I have to ask - how much does something like that cost?
I might have to see if he'll sell just his pickups, because they sound killer.Almost missed this, Firekeepers are the pickups that he makes himself, yes. His instruments are almost entirely hand-built by him.
I play four strings. And five strings. This is something that I've wanted for solo use, I'm not expecting to use it in an ensemble. It has the full range of a guitar, which I also play regularly, and lower strings, which I plan to use to deepen my chordal playing and add new elements to MY music. If you aren't into that idea, that's totally fine. The world is made up of other colors and sounds. This is a good thing. Monochromaticism is boring if it's the only thing that exists. I'm not arguing against you disliking this. You do what you want to do, I can't change your opinion. But I will play this, because it exists, because it is something that I have wanted for a while, and because it is something that I can use to express myself. Even if that's different than how you choose to express yourself. I would never naysay your choice to play what you want, because you are you, and that is a wonderful thing.
In response to your questions,
1. The other five strings are for a combination of chordal harmonies, drone strings, soloing, and whatever else may strike my fancy in the moment.
2. Complicating is your words, and not mine. I don't find it complicating. I find it exciting and new.
3. This has existed well before me, and will continue to exist after me. Why? Because someone decided that they could, and realistically, I'm only following in their footsteps.
Again, I don't doubt that other people are thinking this, but you also made a conscious choice to come here and comment. That's not a bad thing, and that's all I'm going to say about that.
You keep rocking tooagain dude.. just stated my opinion ! To do all that with the extra 5 strings Did the Bass come with an extra 2 hands as well ? lol.
Hey if it Rocks your boat , keep Rocking!
exciting and new ? maybe depending who u ask!
Complicated ? (& Yes, my words) again depending who u ask.. if you asked me I say 3 strings would be more complicated & impressing ?
Cool looking ? I agree!!
Logical ? I dont!
But Again thats just my opinion!
Hey who cares what I or anyone else thinks !
you like it , u want it , u paid for it! Enjoy it!!
keep Rocking!
Mad bass,Ok" Ill be the first to admit im bit old school when it comes to Bass! But 11 strings!!? Come on dude !!
What ever happened to the good old fashion 4 strings! I mean i could undestand why an added 5th string only cuz its actually a low B well in most cases anyways ! some times its a high C!
(What ever) to me it makes perfect sence lower notes, sure why not ! Even the higher ones for Solos /chords etc.
but especially lower notes ( low B) after all its a Bass!
But Would somebody please explain the logic behind an 11 string Bass besides being cool looking please! I mean I undestand the 6 string Bass concept aswell , for the guys that are into high registerd solos/chords/tapping etc.
but then After the 6 string thing of course some body had to come up with the Brite idea of a 7 string Bass with additional high F !
Why ?
even though in my opinion 7 strings is totally ridiculous (again just my opinion)
some guys like the extreme cool look! even if the additional 3 strings probably won't get touched!
But 11 strings?
After the added 2 strings the LOW B & High C
(6 strings) in my oppinon that's when it should of stopped!
So with that being said
Heres are 3 of the Dummest question of 2016 so far!
1.what are the other possible uses for the other 5 strings?
2.Why would anybody want complicate things more then it has to be ?
& 3. Simply Why ? period!!
I can't be the only one out here thinking this!
Sorry dude I really would like to compliment you
but in my opinion that Bass is absolutely ridiculous!
But then again that's Just my opinion! if it rocks your boat ( as they say) good for you keep rocking!
by the way apparently there's an 18 string Bass out there some where! so i guess the real question is Where will it stop? On 20/22/24 strings?
about 42 strings, Cool enough?
lol. dude now im hungry! I wonder "WHY"( no point intended !)Mad bass,
Relax dude, nobody's forcing you to play it.
Your response leads me to conclude that you have an irrational fear of things you are not familiar with or can't understand.
I understand this feeling, because I once felt this way too.
What really helped me to learn to embrace new things was food. Yes, food. For several months, every time I went to the grocery store, I made it a point to pickup at least one thing I had never tried before, a fresh mango, one of those tiny bananas, a box of cookies I had never seen before...etc. Every time I was at a restaurant, I tried to seek out dishes that I didn't recognize with ingredients I had never heard of. Sure, I ate a lot of disgusting cr@p, but I also found a lot more things I never knew I liked.
It's easy to find comfort in the things we know, but you only live once and there is a whole world full of fried plantains and crazy 20 stringed instruments that you may just be a prodigious virtuous on, but you might never know if you think it's too crazy to try.
PS. Please stop mixing metaphors. Floating boats are good; rocking boats are bad. And, asking "Just Why? Period" is just totally nonsensical and ridiculous.
well keep on guessing dude! im not bashing the guy or his dream Bass in any way ! if you reread my post youll see that i clearly stated its just my opinion ! I also clearly wrote who cares what me or any one else thinks if he's happy with it is all that really matters! so I guess your comment is out of place.Venting your dislike of a particular instrument (or entire category of) on some dude's NBD thread for such instrument: Not cool.
Unless it's Festivus and it's your turn at "airing of grievances", I guess.
agree!! every body is entitled to an opinion, not every one has to agree but lets keep it civil! again dude my opinion is just an opinion ! at the end of the day its your dream Bass you got it in your hands and your Happy with it! so as I stated before what I think or any one else thinks its just opinions ! it doesnt matter! as long as your happy with it keep on rocking!!Hey guys, please keep it civil, I don't want them to close the thread because of arguing. It's all good, everyone likes what they like, no one is being forced to do anything. I'll admit I got a little hot-headed for a second, but I genuinely believe that no one is trying to be inflammatory.
wow!! again dude JUST AN OPINION ! (find a dictionaryI don't think my comment was out of place. Even if it's "just your opinion", you still pointed out your perceived ridiculousness of the whole extended range thing. On a thread intended for members to proudly show off their new basses. Anyways, I'm out.
It's a pretty incredible experience, I gotta tell ya.God when I first picked up a 6 string I thought I had everything I'd need, now I want this. Sweet jesus that's amazing. I just find it funny that on that behemoth of a bass it only has a vol/tone. I would expect it to have like this crazy 5 band preamp in it or something lol but congrats I'm so jelly right now
It's a pretty incredible experience, I gotta tell ya.
I'm finding it doesn't need much. The Volume is pretty straightforward, and the tone rolled in a lot for presence in the higher strings and it's all good. Most Prometeus instruments are passive instruments. I believe it's his style, but I dial in most of the settings through my amp and leave it.
Since I saw you were taking requests I give you this
If I was ever gonna get something that amazing I'd want to do stuff like this until I die
Hey you got the bass so you're already halfway there! With 11 strings you can play almost anything ever made. This guy built his bass himself, specifically for sweeping style playing like that. Viraemia is a awesome band, and he is more talented than I.
