NBD: 1956 Gibson EB-1

I missed my chance to get one of these in 1981. A music store in Dallas had one for $225. It had a psychedelic butterfly decal on it below the bridge. I was just a kid and thought, "Gibson violin bass?". That's not a Hofner.

Oh well.

Pretty cool. Looks to be in really nice original shape. Mine was a '53 with the tele-pole. The pink-lined case was almost as cool as the bass itself.

I seem to recall the pole being stored inside the body of the bass. You did check in there just to make sure, right? ;)

Congrats.

Well technically I got it yesterday, but I just wanted to post about it. Yesterday, I finally got this bass after about wanting for around three years now. One knob is not original, but that's no big deal. It's in great shape. I love everything about this bass! It's cool to have such a great piece of history. I'm sure there will be some Gibson bass haters, but I don't care. To me, these are one of the coolest basses ever. Oh yeah, also came with the original case! Thanks for looking!

btw I notice the neck end strap button on your EB1 is on the body above the neck.
Mine is on the underside of the neck, which tilts the bass away from me, so I can't see the fretboard. I've also seen EB1s where the button is on the back of the neck.
How do you find your bass hangs in case it's worth me changing the position of the button on mine?
