NBD Fender Precision "special edition"

Are these only available through the mail?
I just checked all the stores within 100 miles of me and they all said "ship to store in 3-7 days"
Thought I would try one tomorrow and if it played well and was 8.5lbs or less, grab one.

I'm also assuming that these can only be bought at GC.

I'd like to buy one of these but GC won't ship them to any destination outside the USA. Their website won't even allow me to order one and ship it to a US destination because I'm in Toronto.

I'm cry foul and discrimination against GC!

What about Music 123 or Musician's Friend? All three are connected.

I really hate you guys.
I have something like 12 basses and am trying to sell 2 SX's and a Stingray right now.
I hardly ever go to GC and haven't tried more than 2 basses there over the last 5 years.
The Limted Eddition is intriguing and I kick myself for not buying a Sandblasted P when I had the chance.

I bring my 72'P and a digital scale for comparison and to see just how big a pig this SE is.

I played the one LE they had on the floor, a MIM Squire, MIM Standard P (I guess old stock), MIM Special P, and the MIM Player P.
All had great necks with no ski jumps and properly adjust truss rods.
The action was high on the limited edition but I brough an Allen wrench and it set up nicely.
I like the rolled fretboard edges of my 72' as well as the aged neck finish; couldn't be sure about pickups but all sounded great through a V4B and some sort of Ampeg cabinet. Other than that they were all about 8lbs 6oz. or less.

When did these MIM basses get so great?

Remarkable at the price point and can be considered a pro level bass IMO.
These MIM instruments make many of the 70's, 80's, and 90's Fenders look bad.
Anyone of these could be on a top 10 record!

I should have just bought the one on the floor but like the idea of getting something brand new without scratches and finger prints.
After 44 years of playing I've only had 2 new basses and about 20 used ones over the years.
I kick myself for not getting one of the Sandblasted P's to keep as a semi collectable.
This is not the same thing but pretty darn cool for $475.

Here is the weird thing.
I hear myself saying "I'll take a new one in a box right now".
According to my GC in Rockville MD:

GC is also Musicians Friend, Music 123, Music and Arts Center, and 1 other mail order buisness.
They claim that the massive GC warehouse has none left in stock; also say they only made something like 119 of them.

The guys checks stock at many GC stores; there isn't a store with one in a box for over 250 miles.
Then he starts checking the high volume GC's.
Finds 2 in CA; 1 store has both on the floor, the other store is sending a sealed carton to my store.

Does this inventory thing sound real to you guys?
I guess I could try to order one online to find out.

Anyway, thanks for all the info in this thread as well as the gentleman that pointed these out in the hot deals section.
TB is awesome:)

Good luck in the acquisition

Mine was hanging on the wall at the Dayton Guitar Center, my wife called and said they were on sale for $474. I told her that was a steal, and she bought it on the spot.

Funny thing is,, I sent her and my daughter down there to check out a used, (like new), Tech21 VT pedal they had in stock..... She bought that too, but talked them down to 80 bucks.

Did I mention the gig bag??????
