The black is great, tort maybe. Try a stronger contrast.

I might try chrome strings and a see-through pickguard to display the electric components. Imagine a scientific demo suspended in a black background. LEDs maybe?

That would show an audience where the bass cames from.
A camera would go for that.

A black pickguard is entirely predictable. The dark torté provides the perfect touch of elegant variation while remaining true to the theme.

The pb-20 sbk neck is nice and chunky. I bought one via aliexpress for a project. Cheap as chips.

I'd suggest a dark blue pickguard - black and blue is more brutally black than black and red.

That's exactly what it started out as - but it wasn't dark enough for me. Note the white printed name on the headstock, the white lines on the pickguard and the poles on the pups -

The heel length is a give away on the neck too, now I look with glasses on. Real long heel

Understand. If you just taint it in black, the logo will still be here, but black. The idea is not to hide it, just make it black. Ok, it will be less visible, but compliant with the whole finish that say (strong bassy voice) " i'm a dark and sober bass but my sound will kick your...."
And this tort pickguard is just perfect here.

I would go with a black pearl or aged pearl pickguard for contrast.

Stainless frets can be chemically blackened, but it would probably wear through pretty quick.

Black nail polish goes a long way in blacking stuff on the cheap or just using what you have laying around, like making screw heads black, string retainers, knobs, pickup pole pieces. No good for large parts like tuners, bridges, control plates etc.

Agree. I'm retaining the lava guard on my current blacking project. Adds a little smoulder. Burning hot
