NBD: Kiesel IC5 :-(

Indeed.
They never even let me know if they got it in the mail.
I expect they will take their time considering how this played out and that its Black Friday coming up - lots of builds to do.

I did end up filling a claim with my CC company.
Hopefully they'll get on it and get you squared away. Was the claim for them not saying they got it?

Indeed.
And thank you.

I got an email Friday asking how to reproduce the problems Im having with it.
So it sounds like they are even denying there are any problems.

That doesn’t bode well.

Kiesel has refused to accept there are any problems during the whole duration of all of this.
Like Ive said before, huge friggin ego.

I miss Carvin.

From someone who initially had a small problem with my Vanquish multiscale bass that was not handled well by Noble, but was then handled remarkably well by a combination of Ricardo and Albert... it's who you ask for and how. I had a small preamp issue initially. I'm not saying you handled anything incorrectly at all, but I have decades of retail/customer service experience and I'm quite used to seeing how customers either do or don't get desired results. Basically I ended up with a free preamp being shipped out to me and a free zebrawood truss rod cover and I had a direct line of communication to both employees throughout the whole process. The bass is my number one and I look forward to one day placing another order with Kiesel. I hope you end up enjoying the bass as much as I do.

Honestly, when an in stock instrument is marked “no returns” that’s probably a sign that you should pass on it. Way too much of a gamble. I like the idea of some of the Kiesel instruments but it’s unlikely that I’ll ever order one because you can’t play before you purchase. Sure, there’s a ten day return period if you avoid certain options - but would you buy anything from Guitar Center if they had instruments hanging on the wall and the only way you could try one is if you purchase it first? Probably not. It’s a limitation of Kiesel’s direct only sales model that unless you know someone that has something similar or you live near the factory, you can’t try before you buy. Anything in stock should have a ten day return period regardless of options. I can see making certain options nonreturnable when ordering, but if the instrument exists and isn’t built to your specs, it should have a ten day return period.

After 15 pages, I feel like you hit the nail on the head. This wasnt a custom ordered bass.... Kiesel made it, and listed it on their site.

If they have the product in their possession and havent responded to you in a month... Id be calling the CC company back and explaining the updated situation.

This is the most difficult time for a musical instrument company - Christmas, holiday shutdowns, getting ready for NAMM. Still no excuse for no feedback in a month, if that's accurate, but I'd expect a longer turnaround now. Carvin / Kiesel has never been known for stellar support after the purchase. Not sure if that's fair to Kiesel currently or if they just inherited that perception. But, this isn't helping that perception.

Their warranty:

KIESEL GUITARS WARRANTY
Kiesel Guitars Custom Shop guitars and basses, including Guitars-in-Stock, have a 5 YEAR warranty.

The Limited Warranty will be void (not covered) under the following conditions: a) any modified product, b) moisture, c) salt/smoke/contaminants, d) natural disasters, e) accidents, f) abuse, or g) lack of reasonable care. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied. No representative or person is authorized to represent or assume for Kiesel Guitars any liability in connection with the sale of servicing of Kiesel Guitars products. Kiesel Guitars shall not be liable for incidental or consequential damages.

For USA warranties, Kiesel Guitars will provide its own service and parts at no charge providing the Customer includes "proof of purchase" (receipt or invoice) and the unit is shipped in the original carton. If covered under warranty: 1 to 30 days, Kiesel pays ground shipping both ways. 31 days to 365 days, customer pays shipping to Kiesel Guitars, Kiesel pays return ground shipping. Over one year, customer pays shipping both ways.

Note that the Kiesel Guitars warranty is not transferrable, so is only applicable to the original owner of the gear in question.

After one year, I would have to pay shipping to Kiesel and from Kiesel, in the original carton, providing a receipt or invoice and have not modified anything on the instrument. Additionally, they can declare lack of reasonable care if they so desire. So, after one year it would cost me about $200 to get any warranty work done since I'm on the east coast. Hopefully I kept the original carton.

I really like the idea of Kiesel and I think they have done a great job after separating from Carvin. Maybe I'll pull the trigger someday on a headless.

Do CC companies contact the seller when a claim is filed?
If so, they might not know the claim was denied, and dont want to send the bass back that's not paid for.
You might should notify them, if you haven't already.

One could argue that if you like something on the in stock page enough to buy it, then it is built to your specs (or close enough).

Besides, I wonder how making all the in-stock stuff returnable would work in practice. Let's say someone has a bass built to their specs with a non-returnable option, they don't like it, then try to return it while complaining about Kiesel's "double standard".
