NBD: Kiesel IC5 :-(

Attn; there will be a meeting and open enrollment for membership the Carvin / kiesel shills club in the basement of TB we do have a no return policy on the coffee being served...sorry in advance..

Is all coffee non-refundable or just the Option 50 blend?

;)

Sorry, I have nothing to add other than it really isn't surprising to hear about a bland sounding Carvin, that is pretty much their cup o' tea.

I do basically enjoy all the radiused humbucker tones out of my passive VB5 but I have a similar issue with the pickup blend pot.
It basically operates as a pickup selector switch for me, i literally cannot tell the difference between fully neck pickup and halfway between neck and detente, for example. as soon as you hit the detente, the sound changes dramatically. Also there is a tiny bit of scratchy noise just as the knob gets to the detente. It's nothing major, but its noticeable.
I know what you mean. I have had a few basses like that over the years. Even with passive/dual vol setups, it can be a thing. My old yamaha was that way... roll the neck volume down by 3% or 100%... same tone.

No sound clip = no idea what you're talkin' bout.

for me, other than the pickup blend doing nothing but select pickups my other issues are that it came with really bad intonation and a c string that literally could not intonate. but a string change fixed that. However the intonation screw on the A string doesn't turn past a certain point (i think its stripped) so i need to get around to buying a new one since its still slightly off. I emailed them several times about the screw but they never emailed me back, i guess i could call but its such a little thing i never got around to it.

i also dislike how slapping feels on it because I'm used to having less frets, a pickguard, and my pickup further away from the end of the neck (see profile pic). Good thing i dont really like slapping anyway and thats on me, not the instrument.

Overall i'd rate my purchase a 9/10.

oh and a bottom line here:

if you want something special that no retail company really makes, you basically need to get a kiesel or another custom.

I wanted a 5 string, headless, 30" scale bass. Believe me, Kiesel was my most economical option.

Yea, when youre talking stuff like that... they wind up being cheap. My issue with them is that at the end of the day, when you look at the component/build quality....they arent even in the same ballpark as custom builders. Personally, if I wanted custom and didnt have the coin for Lull,Roscoe, etc... I'd go straight to warmoth.

Not to mention the inexplicable fanboys demanding notarized proof, a trial by jury, recorded and videoed proof of the bass' tonal qualities, and other such ludicrous proofs that the instrument does, in fact suck. A loser's game, because those demanding such proof will never believe it. To the OP's credit, he's not having any of it and has left the thread.

I'm calling BS on your blanket accusation. It amounts to a convenient excuse not to have to provide any sort of proof. I would definitely give you my honest opinion, whether positive or negative.

I'm sure every opinion geared to assess the situation was an honest one. The OP simply wanted everyone to agree with him about his belief that Carvin sold him a faulty product and when that didn't happen, he resorted to insults. Not just insults, but hypocritical insults.

My main is a Kiesel PB5, I love it. However, if I left the tone flat, I’d hate it. The pickups are tinny. Very tinny.

Luckily I can roll the treble all the way off and tone down 30%. That makes it one of the best basses I’ve played. Odd how that happens

So I think you’re just experiencing the Kiesel pickup issue. Maybe consider changing the pickups. But don’t know your bass to comment further. Kiesel does make good basses though.

I would like to know how things ended...I am planning to order a Kiesel as soon as my house sells. I have used Carvin for years...basses,amps,and a pa system. Never did I have any problems, and the quality of the equipment was second to none. I believe the op made a mistake by ordering a non-returnable item and it sounds like Kiesel kept up with their end of the bargain by offering to fix anything that was wrong with it with their 5 year guarantee. I think it's sad that some say they won't use Kiesel because of the op's post.I am sure that Kiesel equipment is as good as Carvin's ever was,and I plan on giving them a try.I will know in a few weeks if they are as good as they used to be.I feel bad for the op...I hope he was able to work things out. I don't think slamming Kiesel was fair...just my opinion.

If it helps reassure you, I bought a Kiesel Xccelerator last year and I'm very happy with it. It's no drop in quality from the Carvin instruments I've owned. It also came from the in stock page which, contrary to some posts in this thread, is not a dumping ground for sub-par instruments.

I believe this Carvin, which I ordered last spring, is the smoothest bass I've ever played. I have 6 US basses. I think you'll really enjoy your new bass!

I'm glad to hear it...my B4 I gave to my grandson was the nicest bass I had ever played. That's why I'm choosing the Kiesel build.I really like the looks of yours. I am ordering tobacco burst.
