Not sure where or when this was made. Was looking for a peavey fury and this fernandes played nice. $75 out the door with a $10 stand thrown in.

NBD pawn shop Fernandes

It's a Tremor 4X. Some dealers still have them and they sell for about $350- $400 from what I can find.

Found some that were on sale at one point for $180. Most of the ones I see are double pups where this has just one.
Still have found very little on this bass. Most of it here. Can't tell when but pretty sure this is not MIJ. Most you can find have two pups. Guessing this is a cheaper version. There is a soap bar bassman pup that looks the same. Wonder if it is the same size. Was able to lower the action more. Needs a proper setup but it's close. Has rounds.
Have some LeBella flats on the way. Would like to add a pickguard. Just seems like it sould be there. Add a jazz bridge pup? Can mod the heck out of this if I want to.

Why don't I ever see basses this nice and this cheap when I go to pawnshops? Sweet deal very nice looking bass, is this a real wood top or is it photo?
That really is a beautiful bass. Pretty sure Fernandes is MIJ which mean very good craftsmanship--correct me if wrong. But you simply cannot go wrong for $75 
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If the pickup is a good pickup, you REALLY scored. If you feel the need to replace the pup, you still REally scored. That would be like finding a pristine body of a fantastic auto and you just changed the ripped seat cover. I call that a SCORE! 
If you ever feel generous for some obscure reason and want to...well...just give it away as a good deed....uh...er....PM me. Just sayin'........

Jimdgreat1 many less expensive but good looking basses with fancy tops are either a photo of nice wood or a very thin veneer. If you look at the side edge of the body look to see how thick the top layer is. If you can't see any thickness to it it's either a photo or a very thin veneer.
With the black edge my guess would be that it's a very thin veneer and not a thick wooden top, or a photo top that's a photograph of a nice piece of wood.

Well, since you asked...... If their other lines are any indication, a serial number starting with FG usually indicates a Chinese origin. I wouldn't worry about the providence, though. I've got a Chinese made Burny RLG of some type, and it's a fine player.
To that end, the serial number also indicates that it's a 2004 (next two characters after the FG)
Thanks for the info. Evidently, just like every country, some product can be very very good and others not so much. I thought Fernandes was an older brand from the 80's or something. Shows how much I know about these brands. Looks good anyway and if it is a good player...I still say OP scored. If it is just a pretty face then.......bummer. Hope it is not a photo veneer as mentioned above. I did not know they did that mean little trick. How disappointing that sort of thing is in the bass world.

Hey thanks. I put fender light flatwounds on and it sounds great. Still tweaking the action, its very low and still sounding good. I didn't realize there were some made in China. Was hoping Korea.
Oh, it's not a 'new' brand. Fernandes has been producing stuff since 1969. Originally, they were all MIJ, but as the story always goes, production costs rose, and they moved production to lower cost places. Not exactly sure when that shifted.
As far as it being a photoflame or not, we can't tell from pics. The easiest non-destructive way to tell is to keep tilting the body under a static light source. A real flame (solid or veneer) will have more depth and will change a little under changing light conditions. A photoflame will look more 'flat' and generally remain 'static' as the light moves. My Burny, despite being a MIC guitar, has a veneer.
Like I said, I wouldn't worry about where the guitar is built when dealing with Fernandes stuff. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is if the instrument is a good player. Generally, Fernandes stuff is solid.
Cool...I use to own a fernandes gravity 5x and an atlas 5x. both great sounding passive 5-ers from fernandes. I wish they continue making basses here. they were such a great company. and now you can only find them on randoms sites like ebay and reverb.com.
