NBD Sire Marcus Miller P7

Just picked this up from Sweetwater. Got rid of my Fender PJ and wanted something to replace it. Sire makes unbelievably good stuff for the $$. This is what they call sandblasted finish. I like it it. At 7lb 6oz, it is by far the lightest bass I have owned. Still getting used to the roundwound strings, They came with DR DragonSkins. I have TI Jazz Flats on my other basses. Bandmates say they like 'em, though. But does anybody pay attn to the tone of a bass except bass players. Anyway, I think I'll keep it.

I was one of those guys and returned two to Sweetwater because of it. They were both over10lbs. The newer ones seem to be much lighter and will be a consideration should I be looking for a new bass.
Sire specifically redesigned this series for weight conservation. They also do more weight screening of blanks than they used to, but the other model lines are pretty much still "are what they are" - the Ms are lighter than the Vs and Ps, but yeah, these new ones, they've specifically targeted for weight. I mean, all the weight screening in the world, an ash full sized J body is going to be heavy, that's true for similar Fenders, too, always has been.

Nice!
I picked up a fretless version. I didn't expect the metal scratch plate but it is growing on me. I agree about the weight, it is extremely comfortable. I feel like I lucked out with this one. Do you think the fretless ones use Dragonskins as well? I wanted to find out the brand because they sound awesome and feel great - definitely not round-wound on the fretless model.

I think their fretless bases usually come with D'Addario Chrome flats these days but that might have changed on these latest models...

I got the 5 string V6 fretless (in black/rosewood, no pickguard) and it came with (surprise) LaBella DTF. (I contacted Sire USA because I was curious) I judged them too dark. I happened to have a new pack of DR steel Dragonskins and they matched nicely, an almost acoustic tone, plenty of growl, not heavy mwah, and smoother than regular steels. oh, 7lbs 1 ounce. ...back in the fretless again...

I have a first gen V7 that is heavy, but mine is soo good that I will not get rid of it, just adapt.
Yeah my first is a first run V7, #99 signed by Marcus himself. And it's certainly not light. It's not quite as heavy as my brother's 54 Fender Precision that I learned on however, that was a real boat anchor.

Nice bass, congrats!
How is it balanced with this weight?
As far as I understand it has new premium lightweight tuners. How do they work?

I know what you mean about the dissuasive effect of extra heavy bass boat anchors.

I have a big old extra heavy Schecter import 5 string bass that I don’t like to pick up. Can’t imagine wearing that anywhere much less all night.

Having an extra real nice bass in the collection is definitely nice to have, as in your signed version. Congratulations.

I have an old mim Fender P bass with Dimarzio Split P rail pickups, an aged white pearl pickguard, black, with a black Babicz adjustable bridge. Heavy anchor material. But high coefficient of cool.

Incidentally I just purchased an Ibanez metallic purple Mikro bass and put short scale Chromes on it. Works good. Tight and bright.
Also light and more noticeable is its sporty ergonomic feel. Easy to move around with it.
