The round wounds on this has some serious GROWL. Going to put flats on it but I do like that growl.

A '54-style Precision bass is heavy on my radar.
I have not ruled out the Squier. I like Squier. I have a 40th Anniversary Strat that I love.
I haven't got to the point of making a purchase, but the Squier is still in the running.

Maybe its the Roundwounds, but it sounds much more modern than I expected (I normally play flats). The single coil is NOT tame or underpowered...it has some serious grit particularly for a stock pup. So far I have no issue with 60hz hum either. Played it through a 15" Ampeg Rocket combo amp and got a little hum but you really have to be listening for it. In a band context it would be lost in the mix, I imagine.
The stock pickup in my 2009 was very bright with rounds and I changed the pickup for a Fralin which mellowed the tone a good bit.

These are a great take on the OG Precisions, and they feature the elbow rollover and a tummy cut in back that's rarely found on re-issues of these axes.
Happy NBD! Yes, these growl quite a bit, especially with a pick. I swapped the pickup on mine to a Duncan Antiquity and put on a set of the Labella IMA super polished strings. Tone heaven.

I was tempted to get a Gator ICON in vomit green. What a nice bag. Simply too much bag for my purposes and kind of pricey. Went with the Transit that I already own and love.

I can't understand why Fender made their headstocks bigger and bigger. Not only do they add unnecessary weight to the end of the neck, the look (in my opinion) horrible compared to the Tele headstock.
I still have the one in my avatar. The grain of the pine really does show through the translucent finish. One of the few basses I would consider taking the pickguard off and living with the holes.
a little bit of spray paint and a pickup cover make it look pretty killer to me. i got mine in a trade, and the stock pickup was dead. i picked up a cheap amazon one, and it's pretty bright. good opportunity to use the ... what's it called? ah -- the tone knob.
