I assume you have to measure the pot shaft too. Thanks for the tips. I'll try the knobs but maybe I will just change the pots too.

The pot shafts are 6mm. You can get Invalid Link Removed that will allow the use of any 1/4" set screw knob you want to use.
Knobs... no need to swap pots. It's a standard pot shaft diameter. I swapped mine with a couple of generic knobs from Amazon. Find a pair that you like and Bob's your Uncle.
That... and get the kind with set screws to attach to the shaft. That removes the pressure on the pot which happens with push-on knobs

Has anyone taped the neck to do fretwork yet? Was doing some reading and there is a lot of talk about Chinese VOC finishes succumbing to certain painters tapes. Was wondering what kind of tape you used and were successful with.
I did mine with regular masking tape , worked fine , no residue at all . I did the fret ends , just rounded them some , fixed a high fret by tapping it down and then put some fine sandpaper on a flat file and made a few passes . After that I used my Dremel to polish the frets . The taping , un-taping took the most time .
I came on here to talk about my bass . I put a Geezer pickup and pot system in it and some DR Pure Blue Strings . I also put a high mass bridge on to help with neck dive and get my favorite string spacing .
I used it at the weekly get-together with my guitar buds and it won me over . I used it a few weeks ago unmodded and it wasn't real inspiring , it played okay and it sounded like a p bass but the tone knob didn't do much and it just didn't sound that clear or precise . Tonight through my rig it just sounded like a different beast , very clear with the tone all the way up but when rolled off all the way it gets a Wyman thumpy tone . I could get a cool grindy tone but still clear with the tone rolled off maybe halfway . I would for sure use this on a gig . I think the strings made the most difference but even though I am a Jazz bass player and a 5 string player I like this Debut Squier .

Did you need to drill to install the new bridge? Did it do anything for sound or tone?

The 3 middle screws lined up, I doweled and redrilled the 2 outer edge screw holes.
As to the tone? I haven’t had time to play it yet.

The fret work is better than anything I've seen on a G&L in years.
Plans:
- Cheap-O bare aluminum guard from AliExpress
- Black string nut
- Paint the guard and all the exposed maple on the neck a dark matte brown
- Replace all hardware with high quality black parts (including the addition of bridge and pickup covers)
After that, I might decide to replace the electronics some day...but it sounds good enough for now, and the pots and jack haven't broken yet. I don't expect them to. I've never had a Squier with electronics issues.

Nice! That's a good plan to make it your own.
It continues to be fascinating to me that many of us have found the pickups and electronics quite adequate so far. Good strings seem to be the only constant on necessary upgrades.
I'm playing mine 3x per month with our church band and it just keeps growing on me.

Cool. I'll be very interested in your direct comparison with the stock Squire pups.
There will be no comparison, the Split MFD s are my favorite split pickup , wide range , Tight, bright and powerful with sufficient bass, but slanted towards mid range clarity.
The stock splits are sufficient, but bottom barrel.
