The Debut jack isn't the best. Yet, a jack swap is easy to swap. Much easier and cheaper than a neck swap.

I did put a Debut neck on an older Washburn P bass body. Fit fine and plays fine...setup normally.

A jack swap would be simple. If you don’t solder, just get a solderless harness to replace the jack and pots all at once - not as cheap to do but cheaper than a neck swap and may even improve the tone. I eventually intend to do this upgrade but haven’t yet as the bass is holding up fine and sounding great.

Got a Debut neck on eBay, could’ve gotten a whole Debut bass for a few bucks more but I only wanted a neck and had the option to choose my neck from what the seller had on hand, so I guess it was worth it. This laurel really does look pretty good, better after oiling of course, as pictured.

Mounted to an old Affinity (i think) P body, there was a lot of bad buzz in the middle frets along the G string from about 5th to 12th frets, and some buzzing in a narrower swath of the middle of the D and A strings, so I have have taken several passes with a long leveling beam and 600 grit sanding tape. Nearly got it fixed but realized I wasn’t getting the neck flat enough when the strings were slacked… will give it another try later. For now, happy to have the J neck width and actually good looking faux-rosewood for this bass, which I have been modeling after a groovy red Mustang I’ve seen pics of online. Bass sounds as good as ever so far at home with the Debut neck, vs the very nice all maple AllParts P neck I was using on it previously.

Nice work! Excellent plan and i suspect with some patience you'll get the neck relief dialed in perfectly.

Nice! Still dig mine, shielded it, full size pots, pickup upgrade, also lowered pickups 1/4" (toward bridge) to use standard after market pick-guard and put an old aged PG now off-white (yellowed) solid budget bass, congrats!

I've read through this thread over the last couple of days and between your detailed mods and others, i finally decided to pull the trigger on one of these.
Unfortunately, it got delayed until tomorrow. Once I get the bass, I'll play around with it for a day or two just to see how i like it. After that, it'll get taken apart (I basically got a $120 satin Dakota Red body!)
The first wave of mods are going to be:
Squier CV 70's Jazz neck with Guyker lightweight tuners already installed
Gotoh 203b bridge
Black anodized pickguard
Chrome top hat knobs
Squier neck plate (cause i already have it)
I'll string it with DR Nickel Plated Lo-Riders

After sometime with it, I'll figure out if/what pickups and electronics I'll go with.

You'll have fun with these!

I'd suggest (as @cstone might agree ) you also think about shielding the pickup cavity as well. Mine was noisy as well but a proper shielding quieted it all down.

WOW looks killer! EMG's, maple board, black dots, looks amazing on the matte body and that pick guard finishes it off, really well done!

So 70's maple neck with the black blocks and an anodized black guard, yo can't wait to see that, and 203b is a solid choice, right on! I am lookin forward to seeing that put together. :thumbsup:

It showed up today!
Unfortunately, the truss is so sunk into it cavity it can't be adjusted. Oh well, I wasn't going to keep the neck anyway. It's trash.
What was supposed to be my anodized pickup also showed up but it was a white pickguard with pots and a P pickup w/wiring.
So far this fun project is off to a shaky start :-(
