NCAA Bowl Season 2011

Rose Bowl was fantastic!

Oregon wins for the first time since 1917 (and I'll note THAT my alma mater Washington State U won the previous game in 1916).

The Wisconsin coach needs to be fired. Even a dummy like me knows better than to call a spike with two clicks on the clock. Too bad he burned up those timeouts in the third.

Yup...the really interesting part was that the end was nearly a replay of the 1998 Rose Bowl, in which WSU was on Michigan's 26 and spiked the ball with 2 seconds of time left - just as Wisconsin did today. In both cases, time ran out before the whistle stopping the clock. If they hadn't declared time had ended today, I would have been officially pissed.

Congrats to Wisconsin on a great season and a solid game.

Congrats to the Ducks on their first Rose Bowl win since 1917, and I cheerfully look forward to beating their butts next year.

..............

Now I gotta get a fresh beer to see the Stanford - OK State game. Again, I have friends at both institutions, but I gotta root for the PAC-12 team.

I'm very pleased to see Michigan State beat GA, although I have friends at both institutions. The Spartans were due, and they earned it. (And the SEC can use the reality check.)

This Oregon-Wisconsin game is nothing but fireworks...it's going back and forth like a see-saw. Great to watch!
...as long as you hate defense.:D And now, Track Meet #2 begins...

One more note on the Gators game--that win preserved their 32-year streak without a losing season. That's THE longest such streak in the nation!:hyper:

Yeah, UGA messed up what should have been a 3-0 day for the SEC against the Big Ten.

Maybe it's just me, but the SEC still looks so much faster than the Big Ten. Dubose and Demps were BOTH untouched on that kickoff return against OSU! And in the UGA game, that punt return was ridiculous--if they were playing Bama or LSU, that guy gets tackled at his own 5. Instead, he's able to weave around all 11 MSU players and go the distance.

Yep but MSU was in UGA's backfield all game. Their defense was one of the best in collage football all season. And their defense speed matched up well. Offensively they seemed to be out physical UGA down the stretch. Boykins is certainly impressive but I don't know if his lack of size translates well at the next level.

Oregon should have been sent home without any supper for those metallic disco-from-hell uniforms.. and the Oregon band.... W-T-F??? Salvation army thrift store jogging suits and baseball caps?? Easily the ugliest band and football team of the bowl season.

Rose Bowl game annoyed me to no end. I just don't like watching that kind of football. The Fiesta bowl on the other hand looks good so far.

There's definitely a more conventional, methodical pace to the Fiesta Bowl...mostly because of Stanford's pacing.

I sense you don't watch a lot of PAC-12 football. I'm sure Phil Knight of Nike (the checkbook behind those outfits) would like to hear about it. ;)

Actually, those Duck unis are some of the more tasteful ones they've worn this year. (Shudder...)

Great game, but Stanford's defensive coordinator should be fired. I can't believe how many times Blackmon was single-covered, he's half their offense. The 4th-and-4 was especially stupid--you have a chance to close it out, OK State has no running game, and you leave Blackmon out on the edge with a converted receiver on him? Fail.

As for OK State, they have an incredible passing game, but not much else. They gave up 590 yards to Stanford--not a statement game for the BCS, if you ask me.

+1 to all of this. LSU would have completely shut down OK St.s offense, and would have had their way with their defense.

It does make you realize just how few good coaches are out there.
