It happens. Auburn is a good team that had an extra week to prepare, no game for a month after this, and nothing to lose. We got bitten early in the first quarter, but after that Auburn's offense only scored 7 points by my math. This was Auburn's bowl game and it showed, but the better team won. Roll Tide! Btw, for the above reasons, I have been saying all week this one would be close...

Clutch, clutch plays by Alabama. Quality win against a tough conference foe in a rivalry game. Bravo, Tide........ Great, great job.

Now, I won't hear one word from any SEC honks about close games late in the season to a long time rival. What it comes down to is winning the game, period.

That's what Texas did last night.... That's what Alabama did today. Both teams ran into a buzzsaw and survived.

To say otherwise will compromise your credibility.

Lest we forget Alabama's near loss to a mediocre Tennessee, or Florida's 3 point win over a mediocre Arkansas. And of course a guy with "Sooner" in his title would hate on the burnt orange. :D



I agree that Texas did not play to their full potential last night - but they did what they had to to win the game, and McCoy had an amazing night. Bring on Nebraska.

Like I said in an earlier NCAA thread, my dad graduated from A&M and I was an Aggie fan before I went to OU, so I've gotten flak from Texas fans all my life. I've been wanting to throw Texas under a bus all season ;)

Won't be watching the OU-OSU game tomorrow, seeing as I have to fly into St. Louis at 10 and then drive 2 hours back to Cape. I'm just hoping I can pick it up on XM.

Good effort, Auburn. They came out just like everyone knew they would, with a bunch of trick plays to try and score early. It just happened to work, but if you look at the stats after those first two drives, it's pretty lopsided in Bama's favor. That one toucdown bomb they had in the 3rd quarter was our fault for putting a strong safety on their best corner. I think Auburn had around 130 rushing yards in the 1st quarter, and 23 in the last 3. They tried those same trick plays at least one more time and couldn't convert them.

Still, that's the scary part of playing against an opponent like Auburn in a rivalry game. They had absolutely nothing to lose, and they let it all hang out. They should be proud of what they did.

Not sure what happened to Ingram and his ability to rush. They obviously had a spy on him the whole game, and the defense keyed on him every play. They played the pass more when Richardson was in, and he was able to rush better than Ingram, who got banged up at the end. I hope he's alright by this coming weekend.

The promising thing in this game is that McElroy was cool and calm for the entire game. Zero interception, and he made excellent passes. I think we'll win again this Saturday if he plays like that, as long as we get more rushing from Ingram and Trent. Otherwise it could be another heart-breaker.

You guys won't make me feel bad for over-predicting the Iron Bowl margin. I'll take this kind of win over Auburn every year. This was the most dramatic, heart-stopping game (for me) in a long time, even compared to last year's SECCG. Non-stop offensive AND defensive plays on both sides of the ball. Call me an SEC homer all you want, but this game was about play on both sides of the ball.

I'll say it again. I REALLY like Gene Chizik right now and the way he carries himself as a coach. I'm not so sure he'll get it done at Auburn though. Only time will tell. But the Barners can at least be proud of him I think.

Now I'm ready for Florida!

i'm hoping that florida bucks the trend of close rivalry wins. they have the home advantage, so that should be worth something. it's also the last home game for damn near the entire team, save for the running backs and some of the lineman, so they'll want to finish strong in the swamp.

florida state will be amped up for the game, but it'll be hard for them to execute without ponder, i think. i predict a low scoring game in florida's favor, maybe something like 17-6.

another game going on tomorrow at the same time is another pair of florida schools battling it out in front of a sold out crowd at raymond james stadium. miami has been in a downward slide, and usf's performance is controlled by a random number generator, so that'll be a wild one.

I'm proud of my boys for taking a #2 Alabama team and outplaying them for most of 4 quarters. Nobody can say that Auburn didn't dominate that game. They just let it go a little too late. No shame in a respectful loss.

Oh, and Chizik will do just fine at Auburn and in the SEC. I'd say he's done great in his first year compared to another coach in the state. ;)

Either way, no way Alabama makes it past the Gators next weekend. Won't happen. ;)

Defense is a very big component of championships (I won't say they "win" it, because I think that overstates things a little). And just like last year, the Big 12's top teams (outside of Nebraska, I suppose) have yet to show they can play consistently good D.

In case the Texas folks missed this on the previous page.;)

My predictions for the Florida-FSU game.
1. The Gators won't trail for most of the game like Bama did, nor do I think we'll trail in the 4th quarter at all.

2. Although FSU scores almost as many points per game as Texas A&M, UF won't allow them to score 39 and they won't give up 500+ yards. Heck, if they manage to do those things, I'll buy an FSU shirt and take a picture wearing it. Granted, they're missing Ponder, but they've scored 41 and 29 in the first two games with the new guy starting.

3. Gators win by 14 or so. I'll be very happy if that happens. If it's another squeaker like Texas and Bama had, I'll admit I was overconfident.

I'm in Denver and will be watching the game with my dad at the Rocky Mountain Gator Club outside of Coors Field. The only other time I saw a game there, Alex Brown sacked Quincy Carter about 23 times or so. Here's hoping for a similarly good result.:D

True. They caught Bama snoozing on the onside kick and the 70 yard end around. I proudly left my Bama hat on the entire time and didn't say a word while the Auburn fans partied on around me like it was 1999.

In the end, the truth came out....like it always does.

BTW....the unsportsmanlike conduct on Woodall was a joke.

Stilll, a good solid win without any offensive stumbles.

The main thing...it's official. Alabama and Florida now OFFICIALLY focussing on each other. I hope Ingram is healthy for this game. We're going to need him.
