New 2013 Guild Starfire Bass Reissue

So Jawrat, what kind of electronics that are available today Dwarf what's on Phil's? I'm guessing you don't mean more knobs when you say say dwarf. and are you a Rabbi or Hassidic or just look that way? I'm Jewish but don't observe. Guess all my sins won't be atoned for again this year.

I assume you've seen Phil's (and Mike's [damn copycat]) new meyer rig? Heck, even an alembic SF-1 preamp can do most if not all of what those knobs were for....knobs are great, but it's probably better to have them outboard...even Phil said he never used all the knobs that much (see his book).

I'm just a Jew. Yeah, I happen to be somewhat religious, but definitely un-orthodox. I think it's more like acidic...;) Don't worry, we're all on the same team...in all of the Yom Kippur prayers it doesn't say "I" anywhere...it says "WE", cause we're all in this together (and we love to take a bath...lol)

can i be in this special group or is it just for jewish people, as in those of you who had the chance to be hebrew from birth?

religion is a no-no on TB, right?

geesh! cut me some slack, i'm still new around here :hmm:

at any rate, no one was considering excluding anyone we were just exchanging hellos and touching on things that we had in common. sorry if it irritated you that two folks connected on multiple levels.

I just played both the Guild and the Gretsch the other day, I spent a few minutes on each one with no strap. Neither one felt neck heavy at all and both were light weight with slim necks, think Jazz or smaller. Both sounded great, I preferred the Gretsch for the second PU option. If I were to buy one I would really rather buy the Guild but don't like the 1 PU only option. I definitely am thinking of liquidating a bass or two. Sigh

I have an old SF with two pickups. It really sounds best with only one. And the position on the new SF is perfect. It looks better with two though.

A friend of mine has the new SF. He says there is a slight neck dive but not a big problem. I good strap should take care of that.

Did you stand up with the Gretsch on a strap? I did and it was straight to the floor. Horrid neck five.

Finally had a chance to play one of these at a local music store. Exceptional fit and finish. I mentioned to the owner some of the problems I've read here, and he said this bass was from the second batch of imports. I have a '60s starfire with the pickup in the neck position. I love the sound, but I understand why they chose the bridge position. It makes the bass more versitle. I've owned a lot of hollowbody basses over the years, but may have to pick this one up...

I had a 66 Starfire that I originally bought as a 15 year old back in the early 70's. It was stolen almost a year ago (Ser# BA 516). It's replacement is a 30" Lakland HB. It's a better instrument, off the shelf. I ordered some Curtis Novak Bisonics for it. I'm pretty psyched

The Lakland Hobo is great. Best neck I have played. I chatted with Bo Pirruccello at Hanson Guitars (owner of Lakland) some years ago. He said Hanson Guitars would release a hobo bass in 2012. Nothing came, but Instead Lakland are starting to do guitars. I would have love a bass version of Hanson's Chicagoan loaded with some bisonics.

I wonder if that has to do with old magnets. I think ceramic magnets get weaker with age. Or maybe the put alnico in the new bisonics, like Darkstars. That would give more top end I think. Or maube it's the basses that sound different in themselves. Or both. But I am no expert. It would be interesting to measure the impedance on the new bisonics.
