New 2019 Schecter Jazz Basses

Wow, that's good to know. I've never laid hands on one but, I'd have guessed they would be in the 9 lb range. Do you know for certain if your body is Mahogany ?

I am not a wood specialist but if I trust the Schecter website - and I do - mahogany body with flame maple top. Gorgeous bass...

I purchased 1st Schecter just over 2 years ago, a new dUg Pinnick signature Baron H. I liked it so much I ordered a Michael Anthony signature and that started my obsession with Schecters. I've since have found and purchased 5 used Schecters Basses, 4 old style Model-T's and a 2nd Michael Anthony. 6 of 7 were purchased sight unseen and all of them are superb instruments. I don't think that it's just my good luck, I believe it's great craftsmanship.

I've never owned a Jazz Bass of any flavor and I had been looking for a J+. I heard from a TBer a month ago that the J+'s were discontinued and these were coming.
Being that I like Black and Maple, I plan on getting a Sea Foam Green Model and paint the body black. Like all my other Schecter Basses I'll fabricate a poppin' custom pickguard for it. I may even replace the neck pickup with a MonsterTone P. It will depend upon how I like the MonsterTone J's with the push/pull pots for coil tapping. I can't wait to test the MonsterTone J's out.

All the specs can be found here on Schecters site; Invalid Link Removed

Yeah sucks you have to go through all that. Would be nice if schecter would of gave us the choice on maple or rosewood on both colors.

I have a 5 string on the way to me soon. I played the proto for a bit and loved it. A few things I noticed -

1. It's not an exact Fender body. The contour is slightly different in a few spots that made it more comfortable to sit with and overall felt more balanced. Also, the lower horn cut is a steeper curve that allows access all the way up the neck. Plus there's no block heel in the way as it has the slimmed down neck joint. Way more comfortable.

2. The truss rod spoke is so much better than a covered version at the head. No special tools. You can use anything to get in the slot that fits and give it a tweak. I did a few adjustments quickly while i sat with it and it worked great.

3. The pickup cavities look to be routed for covered models if you swap them. I usually use my pickup as a DIY ramp, so i'll probably get a close J pickup cover for it. Good to know I won't have to mod it.

I was so close to buying a Diamond Custom P 5. But I would be buying it to gig with, and that weight (the one I was looking at was 10.5 pounds) was a deal breaker. And I've heard the p plus is a behemoth also. It's a real shame. Like building a Ferrari with an apple crate for.a seat.
So true. I just used to write off heavy basses as being a man but now I really see the value in them.

These new basses are sweet. some day.
I just found a Raiden Special tho with the 2x coil tapping dual humbucker and through the back strings, 11 pounds and 34... happy camper for now. the dual booms, I usually play with only 1.

thats what ups said.

That can't be right - although I hardly play it these days, I still own one of these (a 5-string) and it's one of the lightest basses in my collection, especially with its Basswood body.

That UPS weight surely is reflecting the entire box, packing material, etc.

Note: I recently purchased a kitchen scale rated up to 22lbs & it's accurate down to plus-or-minus 1gram. I'll thrown it on there later tonight and see what it reads.

Edit: The Raiden 5 weighed in at 8lbs, 11oz. I imagine a Raiden 4 would be at least a pound or so less.
