New Aguilar SL110 cabs.

Admittedly, I haven't had much time to mess around with them, but what stands out most is that while they are adorable, these are not a novelty by any stretch.

They sound much larger and more authoritative than what you would expect from such a small enclosure, very tight sounding, but not boxy.

I played my active F Bass BN5 through them, using an AG700 and it accepted the challenge admirably, never giving the indication that it was too much for them to handle.

That being said, I was using two of them and I had them fairly close to a wall, so I'm sure that was helping amplify the low end.

I'll report back when I've had more time to use one or both in a rehearsal/gigging situation with and without drums. That will be the true indicator of what these diminutive cabs can muster.

But so far so good!

The Barefaced must have a neodymium magnet, no?

These are ceramic, as I've mentioned in my last post.

If you get a chance, could you try just one of the cabs by itself and comment on how that sounds? I'm thinking of picking up a single cab at the moment for use at home. I'm guessing it would be fine for that use, just curious.

I just tried playing one cab with the AG700 and it still sounds great. Being a 10, I feel like it has plenty of bite despite not having a tweeter. Of course it sounds much larger with a second cab, but for practicing, recording, and low volume gigs it would work well I think!

Several years, I was at Aguilar when they were here in Manhattan and begged Dave Boonshoft to make a 10" cabinet. Sadly, he didn't see the market for it.

I also asked Dave about this a few years ago. He kinda wrote off the idea as not being cost-effective and lacking demand.

Exactly my experience. I mentioned other great 1x10 cabinets and that I never see anyone carrying a 1x12 on a subway. Plenty of players have no need for the extra size and weight but will still pay dearly for a superior 1x10. From my door to the subway are 8 flights of stairs. There was no Aguilar cabinet that was ever going on that ride.

The giant logo makes them look cheap IMO, needs to be scaled down. Also wish you could get one in 4 ohms, a single cab with a micro head would be killer for upright.

At $700 you can get a Barefaced 110 that will destroy the Aguilar in every way imaginable as well. Tough sell.

Ironically though, the Barefaced logo is even bigger and cheaper looking. I wouldn't immediately assume these Aguiar cabs won't hang with a Barefaced...there's only so much physics will let you do with a 10". Aguilar also uses Eminence speakers just like Barefaced does, so it could be a very similar driver but that's purely speculation on my part.

I wonder if sales have slowed down on the DB series cabs? Maybe they have a big inventory of 10" DB speakers, and not a lot of demand. Put a 10 in a light enclosure, and you've got a SL cab that probably appeals to more players than it did a few years ago?

Or maybe the market just changed. Does seem like guys are willing to dish out for very nice small cabs these days.

All 100% speculation on my part of course.

Regardless of how people feel about Korg, the current Aguilar folks have given us the AG Pre, something I’ve been asking for, for years, and the SL110, something I never knew I wanted, so I’m pretty happy, and there’s still time for them to drop some other surprises this year.

Agreed, we need to get them on Talkbass so we can give them some feedback an advice.

Still holding out on an AG350 version, but I have to agree… they’ve done a lot in a small amount of time. I especially dig the ceramic speaker choice in these SL110’s.

If sales on DB cabinets have slowed down it's not because of performance. I've had two DB112s and a DB210. They performed well (loved the DB210), BUT they are heavy as heck, especially by today's standards.
But if the SL110 is using the same driver as the DB210 I'll likely love one, or two.

Aguilar produced one of the most innovative equipment for all of us. Ergonomic designs, innovative tones, practical and road reliable.

Screw it, I’m an Aguilar junkie. I already bought and picked up the only two Chocolate Brown SL110 Sweetwater had.

I can confirm that the power handling is 175w.

I wonder if they used again Aguilar's Eminence JDK10 speakers which they have been using throughout in their GS and DB series cabs, for which they also claim a power handling of 175W...
