New amp from EDEN! WTP900

The Eden stuff has never felt like it "fought in it's claimed weight class" to me.
Nice enough tone.
My GK MBF800 totally spanks the last 800B bought used and tried side by side.

Fact is, that the quality went up after production was moved to China.
What ever the reason for that might have been.
Also not that easy to find a company that builds the complete amp including the enclosure etc for you for a reasonable price.

I absolutely have. Many times. And at an amp company, how many people assemble the foreign-made parts into an amp? Two or three? Meanwhile, even companies with overseas manufacture employ more Americans than 99% of us on here.

Eden was talking about the WTP on their FB page and I had this bit of dialogue with whomever runs the page.

Jeff Neer: "I love my WT-550 like no other but I think they took a big step backwards in only being able to bridge @ 8 ohms."

Eden Electronics: "Jeff Neer with the revolutionary new Bridge series mode you can now use 2x cabinets in bridge mode."

Jeff Neer: "So that means into a 4 ohm load then??"

Eden Electronics: "2x 4 ohm cabs for an 8 ohm load."

Jeff Neer: "Thanks."

Not sure what that all means at this point, especially that last statement!

Ya, makes perfect sense to me. Two sides both capable of a 4 ohm load using one 4 ohm cab or two 8 ohm cabs in parallel per side, then the bridging is done in series to bring it back to 8 ohms. Defeats the purpose of using 4 cabs IMHO, but you can still use it in "stereo" mode, I suppose.

I have an early 90's WT300 (before the defeatable compressor), it's been going strong since then, still my only head. I will never get rid if it, maybe keep it at home when I finally get another amp (if ever... it just sounds great). I got interested in the Kustom thread a little while back, maybe get one when I have some good gig$ in the near future, I really should have a backup. I'm interested in a Markbass head, I love my 2 2x10 Markbass cabs, we'll see where I end up. I always lusted after the WT-800, especially when I had my Eden 2x10 and 4x10 (some shitbag stole my 2x10 outta my garage).

I'm honestly so disappointed in this line. It's like they've gone back in innovation not forward. The WTDI was a great step forward but this is just the same old heavy expensive stuff that may only be realistic for the larger touring pros.

Personally, if I was in the market for a 32 lb amp (which I'm not!) I'd just pick up a WT800 at a much cheaper price. The whole cab impedance switching feature would not be a value added feature to me because:

1. I've been playing bass for years and by now have educated myself on impedance minimums and what cabs can go where.

2. After I select my cab I'm typically going to use with a particular amp, I rarely change it.

For someone like me, I'd only use that feature if I was hammered and decided to cart my 32 lb amp out to an open jam where I didn't know what the cab was. It just seems like a mostly useless feature to me.
