New Bergantino Neo Line; Pt. 2

Hello,

I should have a question for the Bergantino experts: what do you think about pairing one CN112 and one EX112ER?
My idea is to set up a lightweight and modular gear, good sounding to my ears (like Bergantino cabs), buying a new CN112 and a used EX112ER instead of 2x CN112 to reduce the price (but not the weight, I agree...)
One or both would be plugged in a shuttlemax 9.2 head.

Those are quite differently voiced cabs, and it is hard to predict if they will play well together. Might sound great.

Seems like little risk to buy a CN112. That will be a very nice stand-alone cab that you can put your HTEXER under for bigger gigs. If that combination doesn't sound great to you and you dig the CN112, sell the ER and save your pennies for a second CN112.

You sure can't do any harm combining them, so you might as well check that out and see how it works.

FWIW, When I was at Bass San Diego, we stacked a CN112 on top of an HD112. Granted, they are more tonally similar. But still different 1x12 cabs. They played VERY well together. Don't know how that would translate to the question about a CN112 atop an EX112er. But as Ken said, buying a CN112 is not risky at all! It's a great cab.

Actually, I believe the HD112 uses the same driver and box/tuning as the HT112ER and EX112ER, so that is good info for the OP. It 'feels' to me like it will work find, with the EX112ER adding a nice bass extension down low to the CN112.

Do tell. CN112 on top of an HD112 sounds like an interesting rig if they play well together.

Ok ..It was really damn good! The HD112 has slightly punchier, more supportive low end. So it was on bottom. My ears could easily dial into the stack (HD112/CN112). Ask Capt Wally here on TB. He owns that stack and uses it with an Aguilar TH500. Very very good rig!

Many thanks to Ken and GRoberts (and particular to Ken for his very instructing reviews and comparizon's videos)
I think I'll first buy one CN112 and I'll see for the 2nd cab (or I'll hear...)
Firstly I'll be able to compare, each one then together, the CN112 with the GK NEO112 that I own, although I suppose these 2 cabs sound very differently.
I don't like very much the GK: it sounds pretty good 3 feet far from it but very thin 10 or 20 feet further... (this is surprisingly less true with my acoustic fretless Epiphone El Capitan than with my JBass, why?...)

A pair of 1x12 cabs will always sound exponentially larger than you would think. So don't let the stand alone performance disappoint you. Pair them up and you'll have plenty!

This is interesting...especially as I have an HD112 and an HT112ER. If I give in to any more GAS, I'll be approximating my own NV412! (OK, just sort of.) And, yes, to confirm Ken's comment, the two earlier 112 iterations have the same woofer and box, with a somewhat different flavor of tweeter, so if it works well with the HD, it should work approximately as well with the HT.

It's a great amp & works well with any decent cab.
The footswitchable active eq or "2nd channel" is a great feature too.
Can get a fantastic grind outta it-power tube- at ok volumes too-depending on ur cabs.
Thru the NV412 I've generally got plenty of clean headroom, but play it thru smaller cabs & pump it.
As John K says - I think it's Fenders best bass amp- especially at the "mid" power range.

Too bad, I have heard very nice things about this amp.

Guess I'm going to have to "muddle through" with my WA driving the CN212. :D

Very cool. Just remember that the CN is one of the cabs that will actually 'break in' a bit over the first couple hours of playing. It might sound a bit 'tight and bright' right out of the box, but the low end will open up a bit and the whole cab will even out by the end of the first gig or rehearsal.

Hey man, if you are Gassing for a tube amp, you might want to check out the Mesa Buster. Very cool amp, and IMO Mesa's answer to the studio bass. Same 200 watt, 6-6L6 power section, pre-amp tubes, fender-ish tone stack, extended EQ section, came in a combo, everyone pulled the heads out of the combos... + a bunch of cool features you don't get with the studio bass - DI, 4&8 ohm taps, footswitch, etc. Very cool, and can be found for a steal if you keep an eye out!

It really is a good pairing. The HD112 is a little punchier in the low mids, put it on the floor and the CN112 on top. Tons of tonal magic. Quite good. :-)

yeah, I am aware. I actually had one the Buster heads a few years ago and sold it because I found it to be too clean/quick/SS like to my ears. Certainly the least tubey, all-tube amp I ever used for any length of time. I ultimately felt that my hybrid Walkabout had more "tube character" than the Buster and I sold it to another TBer.

I agree it had nice features, but ironically, I could not get "warm tube" out of it no matter how I tried.

hmmm, maybe I am barking up the wrong tree with the Fender Studio Bass after all :confused:
