New Carvin P bass, about time?

Well that's very cool that people were talking about that bridge humbucker and then Carvin does it.
I am looking forward to sound clips of the 5-string P pickup. If the B sounds sexcellent, there's a very good chance I will order one.

When I did the bass builder last night to see what one of these will cost me it did list it as the SB pickup. But it shows MM style in the photo and the FB post said it was the MM style humbucker. Must have been an error on the bass builder. I'm sure they will get it fixed.
One thing I don't see is a switch in the electronics package for the MM pickup to do single/double coil!
That is offered on other basses, so maybe it's just an oversight. I always advise to use the bass builder as a guide, then call in the order and talk to a human.
GAH! Why did they go and do this? I was happy to see a affordable P5. Now I can deal with a P/J option, but now they go and do a P/MM. I hate choices, all I wanted was a P5. I hope they do some good samples of all of them. Whoever was the guy that did the Icon samples sounded terrible IMO. Does the MM have a coil tap?
As a faithful Carvin devotee, we've been asking for these over at the Carvin BBS for years now. I'm glad to see that they are finally making one. I'll be getting one with an ebony board, P&J with active electronics, Swamp ash body in blueburst, with a pearloid pickguard.

Now if only they would offer bolt-on 5 string basses with the 17.5 mm string spacing again. Ever since the SB5000 and B50, they have been only doing 19mm string spacing on 5 string bolt ons.

I believe so but I've also heard the opposite that ash can be heavier than alder.
lol, my order is a just 4. But I have considered the conundrum that if I love the PB&J more than my SB5000, I'll have to immediately order a PB&J 5 as my main bass has to be in a 5 configThis is why Talkbass needs Jarrett.
Upon further thought trying to decide between one of these and a G&L LB-100, I think I need to go with the G&L for a more traditional Precision look.
The lack of pole pieces on the pickups is just an odd thing for me to see. I've also decided that I don't like the pickguard. The shorter lower horn due to the input jack being on the side of the bass rather than the top and the edge of the pickguard being cut at an angle instead of being parallel to the pickup...it just looks like a rushed attempt at a different spin on a traditional design.

subbed! I want to see finished basses...I'm considering getting myself a carvin bass as a personal graduation present...was pretty firm on a SB5000 (which I tried and loved), but I'm liking this PB5...especially since I love PJ config...thinking about surf green, BEM fretboard, cream pups...
The ESP LTD Surveyor series comes with P/MM configuration with coil tap. Granted the P is in a soap bar casing, so it doesn't have the traditional split pickup look.
Thanks for the replies. I'll have to see what others say about their alder PB5s when they get them.
Anyone else order one yet or planning to order one soon? This is one of the most painful cases of GAS I've had in a while.
With cosmetics and 'traditional' looks seeming to be the most important, is there any reason you don't get, oh I dunno, a Fender P? It's about the same money....
