It just dawned on me because I'm so slow that if they put a precision pick up option in the SB 5000 it will rival the Reggie Hamilton and then I would have to buy one LOL!
In fact, it will be way better than Reggie Hamilton because without spending all of next years paychecks on top of all of this years paychecks I think they only offer the Reggie in PaoFarro fingerboard currently???
Even rivals Sandberg!!! Everything comes up Win if they offer these as options on other basses.
I want an SB5000 with a P MM config with Birdseye Maple FB in translucent purple.

It will work, just wonder what is sounds like and I'm guessing you would have to adjust both pickups at the same time to change anything?

Im just waiting to hear some reviews of the 5 string, Im curious as to how the pickup position under the A string is going to work out.

Two word solution --- BUILD ONE ---

Order an SB5000 with BM FB, trans purple, fancy top - you name it. Then remove the pickguard and neck PU. Rout an opening for a P pickup and build a new pickguard. Voila, PJ (or P-MM if you ordered the MM option) SB5000!

It will cost you for the new pickup and pickguard (assuming you have a good router / bits and tools to build the templates) (also assuming you're handy enough to disassemble your bass, do this mod and reassemble it with no issues).

As stated on a few other post's. after playing around with a right handed PB4 at the San Diego Showroom. And me being a Lefty. I was still able to hear and feel the tone of P-Pickups and Fell in Love. And when Jeff at Carvin stated that they re-configured the J9 Pickup to Match the P' Pickup. I had to place my order.here is the order.

I think I've changed my mind. Maybe a PJ5 in blue mist metallic styled after this guy is what I "need".

I'm really curious to hear about how the new split coil pickup sounds, and what sort (if any) changes they're doing to the J99A for the bridge pickups.

People rank on custom builders coming out with a P clone, but Carvin does essentially the same thing, and everyone is ga-ga.

I dunno. I guess it's ok, but it at the same time screams "me too". It's just not different *enough* to me. At least the SB went somewhere with the shape to stand out, regardless of that too being at its heart, a clone.

I'm excited about this because I've tried two MIA 5-string Fender Pees and I wasn't satisfied with the B string. I don't want to pay thousands of dollars for other P Basses that look almost exactly like Fenders but aren't. While these new Carvins don't look vastly different from Fender Pees, the body shape is different enough to notice. Plus all the options with woods, finishes, & even headstocks will make them look even more different from Fenders. This please Herrick Too bad there's no option to do away with the pickguard

IF one goes to a USA Guitars, Warmoth, a custom builder, etc. - they can have have the same features and then some for only marginally more (not necessarily twice). It will probably have better resale, to boot. One usually gets what they pay for, and a Carvin is good bang for the buck...BUTT, let's not get all glassy eyed and carried away. Other good options exist and are available.

I don't know about USA Guitars (never been to their site) but Warmoths have to be put together. I don't know how to solder all that stuff in there. Will Warmoth put it together including the electronics? I'm a big fan of that Dinky P shape. Whoa...that didn't sound right

Ok. It says 19mm is the spacing for the SB5000.

I'm torn between ordering one of these in the next few months and a G&L LB-100. The Carvin would only be a few hundred cheaper. I'm not entirely sure it's worth it especially if there are yet no reviews. I'm more interested in how the pickups sound.
