New Carvin P bass, about time?

Not sure. There was a thread on the Carvin forums that was created back when the rush option was introduced. I'll check it out.

Edit: Here is the response of an official Carvin person. I can't post the link to the thread because they removed the address bar from the browser at work. It's page 2 of the thread which comes up as the first link if you do a search in Google for Carvin Rush Build.

The main reason this was added was because people were asking for it. "Hey, I have a gig next month, can I pay extra for you to get my new guitar to me in time for the show?". So, rather that make it a hit-and-miss thing, where one guy pays XX amount, and the next guy pays a different amount, and no one really knows what it's all about, we came up with standards and a policy, as well as defined the timeline. I think I can safely say that we think our current build time - which average generally from 6 - 12 weeks, depending on the time of year and other factors, was plenty reasonable. But, since people were asking about it, we decided to make it an option. And it should not affect the build times on non-rushed instruments. Nothing about the build itself is being hurried through - it's more like when certain things happen on the build, or how many people are doing something on a build. Would a rushed instrument be used to train a new employee how to mask the fingerboard for painting? No. It would be given to the most experienced person so it can move quickly. That kind of thing. The quality is exactly the same as a non-rushed instrument.

Personally, I doubt that I would use it. But if I had an important gig, photo shoot or something in a month or so, I might - which is exactly why we added it. Well, that, and the fact that people were asking for it.

For all those who complained about the introduction of a new bass, wishing they had just added the P pickup to their other series, I personally only want a single P pickup, without a bridge pickup (which I never use). So I'm happy for the new model, available with the single pickup.

I have to poke fun at myself here. In looking around the Carvin site, I browsed the basses in stock page. Found a white B5 with the Musicman style humbucker. I stated above that I only want a single pickup, but I've always liked Stingrays. Couldn't resist that in-stock B5 and ordered it. A PB5 will have to wait.

There was a problem with my credit card earlier this week when I placed The Order. I called Carvin the next day to straighten it out. Today they have billed me. Never before have I been so happy to see my credit card get charged. It Has Begun :cool:

you will totally love that B5...I have one and a B50 and wish I could get another B5. Wonderful bass, one of their best models..

I just spoke with Keith at Carvin today about their SP5. I thought the bridge humbucker looked like an interesting option but he said the hotter rewind of the J99A was a better volume match and tone blend with the PB5 pickup. The placement and windings of this JVA were optimized to work with their PB5. After building a PB5 to my liking for under $1100 on their website, if I wasn't already set with a custom PJ5 I would have placed an order. I've been very pleased with my SB5000 and the PB5 uses the same neck. Impressive...
