New Carvin P bass, about time?

Here are some sound clips of my new Carvin PB5 I recorded today.

I mainly recorded using the P pickup but first clip has both the P and J pickup up full.

The only eq is from the bass, which is noted below. I used Cakewalk Sonar X2 Producer to record the clips.

Geez. Just when you think GAS is gone for a while. I think it's time to build a 5-string all-walnut P.

Now, do I want to go passive or active?

nice!!! now if only carvin didn't only offer that danged 19mm string spacing these days. I've got a bunch of 5ers now, and all are 17.5mm, and honestly, I like it better than 19mm for a five. It's the overall spread of the strings that is just too big for my tastes. on a 4 banger it's just fine.

I'll be ordering a blueburst, swamp ash bodied, ebony fretboarded PB4 with P & J pickups and active electronics once funds allow.

well, you can always turn off the active treble/bass boost/cut and volume, and it works pretty much like a passive bass. even with the active electronics they still have a passive tone control.

Am I the only one who finds the Carvin headstocks to be absolutely ugly? Someone should help these guys redesign their headstocks, their instruments are truly awesome except for its looks. Or is it only me?

You think all of their headstocks are ugly? They have quite a few choices.

Specially this PB design is to me very awkward. They could sell a lot more if their aesthetics are improved, IMHO. I have had two of their basses, and found no flaw in them. Price are quality are hard to beat.

FWIW, I actually like the SB style headstock. Actually I like most of their headstocks, save maybe the Bromberg one. I'm really liking this new bass, will probably be ordering one soon.

Used mine on a gig tonight! Sounded great on everything from Motown and Funk to Classic Rock and surprisingly light in weight besides. The drummer complimented me on how defined and clean the tone is. This is going to be a great Studio Bass!

I A/B'ed the bridge pickups on the PB5 & the SB5000 and I feel the JVA on the PB5 is thicker sounding. Here's a sound clip of the JVA soloed.

Thanks for that clip. The JVA sounds beefy enough for me. I was afraid it might be a little thin and trebley, which it is not. Cool!
