New Carvin P bass, about time?

People rank on custom builders coming out with a P clone, but Carvin does essentially the same thing, and everyone is ga-ga.

I'm gonna say this is not a clone. The Carvin uses a different bridge, different tuners, different neck (angled headstock). Rather than clone, I'd say it is their implementation of a P-bass.

Oh, and you can get it with or without the J pickup, active or passive. Yea, this is no simple clone.

I dunno. I guess it's ok, but it at the same time screams "me too". It's just not different *enough* to me. At least the SB went somewhere with the shape to stand out, regardless of that too being at its heart, a clone.

Whether it is different enough is debatable. For me, the made-in-USA instrument at a lower price with more options than Fender would make it a winner.

Just placed my order for a PB4 that matches my SB5000

-MA - Maple Neck/Alder Body (Standard) $0.00
-CG - Clear Gloss Finish (Standard) $0.00
TPB - Translucent Pearl Blue $50.00
-TN - Tung Oil Finish Back Of Neck (Standard) $0.00
-IN - Inline Headstock (Standard) $0.00
MF - Maple Fingerboard (Tung-Oiled) $0.00

6130 - Low-Wide Frets .036" H .106" W $15.00
-BLK - Black Pickups $0.00
PJAC - Add J Bridge Pickup and Active/Passive Electronics $160.00
-CH - Chrome Hardware (Standard) $0.00
-4011 - Nickel Roundwound .040 .060 .080 .100 $0.00
BL - Black Logo $0.00
PK - Metal Knobs w/ White Pearl Inlays (Black Inlays on Black Knobs) $10.00
SL - Dunlop Straplocks $10.00
WP - White Pearloid Pickguard $15.00
IVN - Ivory Graph Tech TUSQ Nut $5.00
HC8 - Black Tolex Hardshell Bass Case $69.00

10 weeks wait on these. They timed it just right for me. I've been on the hunt for a 4 string.

Even if you consider it a straight forward Precision copy and aside from all the other options Carvin offers, it's still a P bass that you can get in 4 or 5 strings, fretted or fretless, active or passive, with an optional jazz pickup in the bridge and you can get it as a lefty. That services a lot of individual desires people have for Precision basses ("real" or copies) that aren't widely available, even at much higher prices.

you realize the inline is the pointy carvin headstock and not the SB right?

That's strange. I pulled that off the builder. In the builder process it says SB standard, inline $10. Not sure why it says that. Must be a glitch in the builder. I verified the SB is standard.

Yes...this for those who will b1tch that it's just another "P copy"

American Made...incredible price.

The OPTIONS alone, including fret sizes...adding a J pickup..and Doh...it's going to be UNDER 9lbs..

This is a great thing for us

Jarrett, first of all congrats on the new bass headed your way! Can you confirm that it's the sb electronics in these basses? VVT and stacked bass treble? I'm thinking of going passive only PJ when I can afford it (which won't be soon). Just wondering what the control layout is.
