I had a cherry SG bass and the thing I hated the most was the colour....

I don't care for the olive drab so much, but the pelham is nice (even with the tort)

I like Tort on lighter solid colors (surf green, daphne blue, shell pink, etc). Metallics, not so much-- that's why the good lord invented mother of toilet seat!

Chicago Music Exchange just dropped two exclusive SG Basses in Pelham Blue and Olive drab.

Hopefully the headstock stayed on and there wasn't too much damage. Maybe a scratch and dent discount.

More like you learn that a Fender style setup covers just about any real world situation you might deal with. Fwiw I've had other Gibson/Epiphone basses that worked. The SG feels great but those current iteration pickups just suck, totally empty sound.

Fair enough. I (mis)took your initial post as mindless Gibson bashing. I have no personal experience with the current pickups, but I love the sound of the classic ones. FAT at the neck and bark at the bridge. Just hits my ears right.

Still like the Matoba Wataru SG from the Japanese market but they are $$$.

I'm drawn to the Olive Drab just because Gibson has done Pelham Blue on a SG bass before. Now that olive drab on a Flying V bass..

I tend to like the CME exclusives.. I have the TV yellow DC and I love it.

Me too, i just jumped on a olive drab one. Funny i was thinking they would sell the crap out of olive drab V's too. I ended up putting it on 30 day layaway, can't wait

As I understand it the pickups in current SGs are Thunderbird pickups underneath chrome covers that are designed to look like the original setup. They are not the old school pickups, no mudbucker in the neck. Now, I owned an Epi T-bird and those pickups were pretty good, so again, I struggle with how I couldn't connect with the SG bass I owned. And on the Gibson front, I once had a Grabber fretless, and currently have a Jack Casady, so I've probably tangled with more Gibson-related products than most bass players.
