New Darkglass Compressor: The Hyper Luminal Hybrid Compressor

That looks nice...it's a bit pricey. It'll have a tough sell considering how good the Origin Cali76 compact bass is.

It’s nearly a full $100 less than the Cali CB, and nothing in it’s price range had the features it does...even the CB, which I own and love, doesn’t.

Am I missing something ??

A splashy video with no audio and people are on-board to buy it ?

I own Darkglass products, but maybe hold off until you hear it.

Not sure what you mean by ‘no audio’ - all of the sounds in that video aside from the drums were created with a bass and that pedal, courtesy of Or Lubianiker, as well as the DG plugin for the distorted tones.

I'd also like to see and hear a demo of the pedal itself. Going through the settings, how the controls interact, using it with the DG Suite, not mixed, clean tones, and so on

I assure you, plenty of those are forthcoming ;)

I just didn't understand the "no audio" comment.

Can someone explain to me the "Compressor" control?
Website says: "Sets the overall amount of compression. This control also affects the internal makeup gain."

What is "the amount of compression"? It's not the amount that the signal is compressed, because that's a ratio control, which is already below. And I don't think it's the volume of the compressed signal because you can control that by using the blend and the output vol together.

That's the "input" control, which does control the overall dB reduction of the source signal: the Ratio control affects the ratio of compression being applied, not the db reduction.

Is that saying the threshold is fixed, and the control adjusts the internal gain of the signal, as opposed to the knob adjusting the threshold?

I'm assuming that it's similar to the input control on an 1176: I'm far from a tech guy, but turning up the input knob of an 1176 simultaneously makes the signal louder and also increases the total dB reduction.

they wrote about "digitally modeling side-chain circuits" to develop the voice of this unit. I don't see an "in" for using another instrument for an actual side-chain.

My understanding is:
You plug your bass in, the signal is split and one of the paths goes to be shaped by the digital thingy. The result of this triggers the (analog) compressor applied to your (analog) signal.

Definitely looks promising, but here's a question: 'The pedal ships with 3 selectable models (more to be added)'. A quick scan of the manual says there is USB connectivity, and I assume that you'll be able to upgrade the pedal like that. But if there are say another 2 models added, what happens on the pedal itself that shows only three?

Hi, the Compression knob is a Threshold (input gain), but adjusting that control always annoyed me because you'd have to inevitably readjust the Output to keep the volume consistent, so we implemented a makeup gain control to work simultaneously with it, which maintains the output level within a much more manageable range at different Threshold settings.
