New Darkglass Compressor: The Hyper Luminal Hybrid Compressor

I can see that mechanism failing leaps and bounds before a switch or simple dial.

That is highly unlikely, as I posted before, for the sensors to fail the chassis would have to be drilled or chopped in half.

Other than that, these systems have been used for anti-vandal and weatherproof keypads for a few years now.

As someone who purchases hundreds of thousands of some of the best mechanical switches and potentiometers you can find, I would kill if these parts had a fraction of the lifetime and reliability touch-through-metal offers.

I agree to disagree.

Touch controls seem a perfect solution to me. No moving parts, more reliable than traditional switches, and only sensitive to your fingertip and not your boots. I'm always kicking my knobs adrift by mistake, this seems like it would solve that issue a hell of a lot better than push-in knobs or covers that other pedals have used.

I hope to see a multiband version in future. Or at least see if the new crossover based unit can compress the lows like the DP3X!

I don't worry about the reliability of the switch itself, it's more the loss of direct, analog control... a pot controlling and analog circuit doesn't boot up, have firmware issues, etc... Still, I think the digital control of an analog signal path is pretty awesome, I just have a soft spot for true analog/analog, too.

It shouldn’t be too surprising that a community that largely plays instruments designed 75 years ago would exhibit some discomfort with changes.

Not sure what you mean by ‘no audio’ - all of the sounds in that video aside from the drums were created with a bass and that pedal, courtesy of Or Lubianiker, as well as the DG plugin for the distorted tones.

What was missing for me were examples A/B ing the unprocessed and processed signals at various control settings to provide an accurate representation of the performance of the pedal.

Bassic Gear Review has a vid up already! I enjoy their work and it is a great overview of the new comp. Stoked to see a review up so fast!

Stoked to see a demo.

Let's not forget that there is a difference between a demo and a review. There was a recent thread about a builder looking for someone to do a demo video for his pedal (also a compressor), and the subject of compensating the person to make the video. That said, demos are plenty useful, and I want to get home so I can listen on better speakers and headphones than the ones I have at work :)

I was wondering about the analog/digital modeling effect. Its hard to really tell but just from this review its sounding like the digital reacts similar to the compressors on the Helix, which isn't all bad and I may skewed from Youtube's compression rate. The Compression control adding volume is cool and something I like about the DP3X onboard comp adding volume, though its low end compression. It teased it but I wish it would've delved more into the DG Suite software features. Looking forward to more

 Haha, what?!? Opinions are based on feelings from facts and data... Fyi, I like the touch sensors and chances are everyone are using some form of touch sensors and probably never questioned their reliability

Someone replied from an uninformed stance that they disagreed with the informed stance of someone else, for no other reason than they felt like it.

I was just pointing out why that was silly.
