Let's not forget that there is a difference between a demo and a review. There was a recent thread about a builder looking for someone to do a demo video for his pedal (also a compressor), and the subject of compensating the person to make the video. That said, demos are plenty useful, and I want to get home so I can listen on better speakers and headphones than the ones I have at work :)

You are of course entitled to your opinion, but it is wrong from an engineering perspective :D

A capacitive switch such as this that does not rely on any mechanical components will not be more prone to failure than even the best mechanical switches. There are no moving parts to wear out so as long as it is correctly integrated into the pedal circuitry, a touch switch like this could last much longer than the several hundred thousands duty cycles a mechanical switch is typically rated to.

Additionally, there are no parts protruding from the chassis of the pedal that could be broken by an errant or overzealous stomp.

Been playing with the Hyper Luminal for a good part of the morning. I can say with confidence that the touch buttons work very well and will not be an issue to accidentally touch. You need to apply some force when touching so rubbing a finger across a button accidentally isn't going to change your setting.

Ok. That review tipped me over into the "This is now on my shortlist" for this thing. Said list includes the Smoothie, the Empress Compressor, and a pedal a local builder's talked up, and one of them's going to be on my board by the end of this year.

The Hyper Luminal's knobs look suuuuper close together heh, but I wouldn't foresee trying to quickly change settings on the fly (other than on/off).
