New Darkglass Compressor: The Hyper Luminal Hybrid Compressor

Playing through the Hyper Luminal in a 2400 person auditorium this AM in front of my Shift-Line MKIII direct to board. Using FET with ratio 4:1 with compression knob at noon, blend knob at 11:00 and sounds great. Nice relatively subtle compression. Smoothed out but a little edge.

Quick pic of the Hyper Luminal in action tonight at rehearsal.

You sold the best compressor on the market to get another compressor you have not try it yet? ... that’s crazy :rollno:
Haha, I sold my cali76 CB for an FEA DB-CL i hadnt tried and regretted it. Great comp but more transparent than i like. I like my comps to "add" something. I then sold the FEA and currently content with a diamond bass comp. I am buying a Hyper Luminal in 2 weeks and hoping the FET mode gives me the mojo i loved about the cali

I would love to see the options on the darkglass suite. I also wish there was more info on the stock attack/release times and pass filter frequencies. When i get one I'll probably just match everything to my favorite cali settings on fet mode anyway haha

That's a sweet little board you got there...

Thanks. The Hyper Luminal sounds great in front of the MKIII. The Linden is there when I need to kick in some more booty with girth.

Both guitarists were pretty intrigued by the Hyper Luminal. Of course they thought it looked sweet with all the blue LEDs. I think I'm going to have to let them both borrow it.

Will be interesting to hear what you think. To my ear the Cali has a little more up front "pop" or brightness up front. The Darkglass in FET isn't as bright though has some girth and a little grit.

thanks for adding the screenshot, seems like a nice UX that would be easy to use. Wish they had built it as an app, with BTLE connectivity instead of the mini USB. Nonetheless it's an awesome concept and I hope it's successful so they keep coming out with new emulations. No doubt I'll cave in eventually and get one... would also like to own a Distressor some day, wonder if there is any similarity since they use a similar concept (analog / VCA comp with digital control)...

I know the empress is one of the best compressor pedals. I don’t like to hold onto things I’m not using and I can always purchase another one if I really wanted it again. I don’t see myself using it enough in my personal setup that I will go back to it though. It is a personal choice and I’d rather let go of something to try something new rather than keep hoarding things I’m not using. Plus, I sold it used for the same price as a new darkglass, so I’m not making any losses.
