New DR neon strings

Photoon2010-10-11at10372.jpg

pictures dont really capture how cool they look in person. I really am impressed on how they sound.
Mine have some lil chips where there isnt color. Is anyone elses like that?
I think there may be a broken B string in your future- it looks pretty unhappy about being strung through-body. Maybe the E as well.

Got and tried another set of DR neon green guitar strings. Very diff results this time. First thing I noticed is they sound much brighter unplugged then the previous test set. So I plugged the guitar into processor. Bingo, reads the notes with no problem. Had the B&E strings on it so did some quick runs to compare their volume with the rest of the strings (still rotosound pinks at that point. Bingo, no drop in volume nore drive. Put the rest of the new set of DR Neon greens on guitar. Testing sound and string volumes and drive level to the sound with each new two strings added.

I cannot absolutely swear to it but I think this new set also feels more pliable then the previous one.

Luckilly the color attraction and the somehow felt odd about how dark the first test sets sounded compared to what Id been useing. Moved me to go ahead and try again with these strings. Glad I did. Somehow I got a bad set with initial order.

Does my description of problems with the guitar version sound like the result of rather dead strings? The question is mainly for those of you who help design strings. And who rather dislike dead old strings in general. Do dead strings also often exibit a low sound volume to them to?

Sound of the good set? Much much better then I had hoped for when I first ordered them. I like them better then Rotosound Pinks. They have all the great qaulities of those plus an extra bit of articulation and clarity that doesnt distract from overdrive saturation but rather adds to it in a way that gives thunder to the sound. If a guitar can sound like thunder. Lol. So I can now say DR Neons are the best strings Ive used and will be my normal for both bass and guitar for the forseable future.

One last thing I'll mention. In my original posts about the guitar strings I noted a odd effect to my fretting. Like their feel was such that I was noticeing myself slowed down a little like I had to be heavier handed with my fretting then normal to feel the strings the same as regular uncoated strings. Thinking I just needed to get used to them. I didnt notice this effect with the bass strings. Is this another symptom of dead strings, odd feel? (Its been more the ten yrs since I've played a guitar with what could be called dead strings btw. Cause this new set of strings doesnt give me that feeling at all. Easy light fretting in my normal manner right off with them.

my guitarist buddy got his set, here is what he had to say about them:
Alright, the strings came in yesterday. Let me start by saying, NO they DO NOT GLOW in any way shape or form. They are, highly reactive to blacklight, and are very shiny in daylight. The coating is amazing. I played almost 8 hours, and I cant notice a single scratch. The green is so amazingly bright, it sticks out on the jackson like a signal flare. The tone is f'ing rediculous. High sustain in pinch harmonics, easily bendable for fast, precise tremolo, and they have a smooth buttery feel to them that just makes it comfortable to play for hours without your fingertips feeling any different.

How so? I've never had one break before.
It's just that I can see that the B string hasn't fully conformed to the path it's being asked to take- straight up from the bridge/body hole and over the saddle. It's got a curve there, which means it doesn't want to be bent like that. It may be fine forever, but it's not a good sign- this puts a HUGE amount of stress on the core wire. I would be inclined to string it through the bridge instead.

Ive had that odd little curve show up on fivers low B myself the three times I owned a fiver. But with no problem at all. But I did find I also preferred the strings thru the top of the bridge rather then thru the body. Eqaully god sound but little bit tension feel somehow.
