Antigua is an acquired taste for the discriminating palette. Bud Lite it aint! :hiding:

How can you NOT like it?!?!? ;) Just kidding,. I know Antigua isn't for everyone - which is exactly what makes it cool!

Who is making this a racist thing? And country of origin has nothing to do with the caliber of work a shop can put out, I am sure a bunch of mexicans with as much training and resources as the Fender custom shop could turn just as quality of instruments.

The fact is the mexican shop uses cheaper parts, they buy what is available when for cheap instead of a standard part for electronics, the fret job is not nearly as nice, the fret ends are all jagged and sharp, nothing nearly as bad a Squier but nearly as good as ANY american bass. Amongst other things.

The fact that I, and many others here, do not want it to be a mexican bass and would buy it today if it was a US Fender has NOTHING to do with race or country of origin. The fact that you took it there is kind of racist in my opinion...

Lets drop the country of origin issue before this thread gets shut down folks! No one's winning any internet debates with people they don't know halfway across the continent..:)

I'm definitely interested in playing a new Antigua Jazz! It's really hard finding decent quality late-70's Fenders. Especially with a rare finish! While my '78 fretless has some issues (weight, thick finish and an over-sized neck pocket route on the treble side) - it plays superbly and sounds amazing! I've tried 2 late '70's matching Jazzes & they both sounded like duds. :hmm: At least now I have an opportunity for a real-Fender matched set!

I like Antigua, especially with the old -school chrome covers and thumbrests.
Just to clarify, my issue is when people drag out the "Mexicans in the US or Mexicans in Mexico" thing. American workers are American workers, whatever their color, and I believe in buying American when possible. That's all.

My point was more the factory not the workers, that why I made
that remark. I believe that people are people, we are all the same species.

I like a bass that is well made. If I can fine it US made and more importantly if I have the money :D
I'd get it if not, I go with what I CAN afford.

I've been diggin' the Classic series of late :)
I like the old school USA parts on these and if you find them on a good piece of wood, great :hyper:
So I think these (Antigua's) might be good for some.

I like buying American (and I do, all the time, no), unfortunately I personally believe that
whatever we do as a people in this country (alone) will not reverse the tide of job displacement in this country.

Only world opinion (together) and pressure on corporations will do that, but that's just me :hmm:
