Ugly then, ugly now. I don't get the appeal.
I think that is the appeal....I've never liked them either....but the more I see them the more I want one....not because they look pretty but because they don't....crap, I hope I don't buy one.

See? That's what I was saying also! I looked at them for the first time and they made me a little squeamish....but the more I looked, the more I liked!
Ordered one (P-Bass) yesterday and damn glad I did!
Not for me...can't get past the color, which looks like something my cat ate but ultimately didn't digest very well. There is one of each brand new available on eBay for anyone interested......

Oh No! I am starting to think the same thing. Fender is playing some mind control game on us.
Those e-bay ones really have a greenish hue to them. The original Antigua finish is just gorgeous, I have a 1967 Fender Coronado II in Antigua, and it's a cream colored hue with brown edges, no green in it at all. Nobody that's seen it has ever been able to avoid falling in love with it.
Fender is protecting the value of the original finish by going a bit different route, but it's less attractive than the original, for sure. I'd still rock one, if I didn't have 13 bass guitars already!

Very cool. The MIM thing doesn't deter me one bit. I have two 2010 Precision MIM Standards and a 2011 Jazz MIM Standard, all with maple boards, and they are damn nice basses.

I should go to Dave's, buy an Antigua jazz and a 70's jazz, swap necks, then sell them back the 70's jazz with maple neck.

I think the P-bass looks more authentic. A bit too light maple though (they should have used some tinted finish to make them look more vintage). Is the 9.5 radius notably too flat if you're used to 7.25, or is the difference just negligible?

Has anybody seen one in the flesh already? The color varies in the pictures, some have a green hue and others don't. I would like to know the real color.
Did you by chance hear of the recent crash of the housing market that has been going on for about the last 5 years? I understand market pressures and all, but there is a case to be made for actual value vs. inflated prices. There may be forces (GAS for one) that drive people to buy at a price that exceeds value.
In any case, as to whether or not they manage to hold their value, this is a question that each buyer will have to suss out if it even matters to them.

I don't understand why the antigua finish always has to be accompanied by an antigua pick guard. The finish would look so much better with a parchment or black pick guard.
