New Fender Antigua models...

I told fender to do a 50's pastel matte finish series & bring back the maple fretless board, not antigua. They never listen.
If they had an ear to the ground they'd also let squier do a metal series--all metallic earth tone finishes & active pups, choice of either jumbo frets & unlined ebonol

Not true......here is my 2012 MIA mahogany stained P-bass. Production limited to 150 world-wide and pricing is in-line with with any current MIA P-bass.

I had looked at these beauties myself and seriously thought about buying one. However, when the Antigua P came out I was sold on that one. Not because of the price, or the MIM (doesn't matter a damn to me); but merely because I fell for the finish.

I *sort* of like the idea of a limited run - and in the end, that DID play a part in my decision.

Your New American is definitely a beauty, though!!!

Yeah, I'm with you on finishes and how they affect our buying decisions. In reality it should be the performance of the bass and not the finish that drives our decision but hey, if you can get a bass that performs well and matches the look you want I say "go for it!"

I took the plunge and got an Antigua Jazz. I've always found the Antigua finish strangely appealing, but it did look better in real life. Feels pretty good---neck is fairly chunky for a Jazz, in my admittedly-limited experience. So far, so good.

Fender Japan rerelased the maple fretless precision. its only available in natural finish though, iirc.

i have a vintage maple fretless p and i love it, i can understand the demand for one.

for the record, id love to have a fender bass with an antigua finish, but id put a black pick guard on mine.

The '60s Antigua ages beautifully, on the other hand. I've seen some gorgeous Coronados that have yellowed perfectly, but the original colour was not as green as the '70s one, as already mentioned.

Tort P/G on Antigua, so ugly it starts looking good.

I've played around 4 or 5 late '70s Antigua Ps and Js, they were all heavy as hell and all had that upfront punch with no bloom heavy Fender sound. Not my tone but a very cool one. The finishes were quite thick, and they all had very white maple necks, even after a few decades.
