I remember reading that same interview! And I agree with him and feel the same way. Active guys always say "remember to bring a battery!" and I just say "why bother?"

No point hiding... I agree with you.
I do like passives better and don't play any actives at all. That said, however, it seems like this would be a chance to truly do something different and the type of player who might like a more aggressive sound (which is what the BT series offers) might like active. It seems like they are trying to make a "Ray killer" so why not go all out?

It looks it might be Squier... the double 'bucker P is right next to a Squier MF P-Bass... same truss rud hole.
The copy in the link said they're Fenders. Probably MIMs, they have that same truss rod hole in the headstock as Squiers.

I have to disagree with that!
I just looked at this thread for the first time, I think they should reintroduce and improve the fender P with that humbucker that looked like two jazz pickups stuck together - I think it was the big block. I just don't think they gave it enough of a chance - electronics were crappy but everything else seemed fine, it seems like the design has lots of potential.
That being said - a J bass with two P-pickups? ABOUT TIME. PJ basses with a J neck have been done to DEATH (and with good reason, it's a popular combo.), but double P basses are hard to find, and usually only available to those with large wallets. I think it should also have a P neck, I've ALWAYS prefered the P-neck over the J neck.

The double P Jazz looks fantastic... Not quite sure about the Precision, though. The pickups look similar to the one that the big block had, and if my memory serves me, those sounded like butt.
They're not the same pickups that the Big Block had, because those had open coils. These look more like the MIA P Deluxe bridge pickups from a couple of years ago.
