New GK Plex Preamp

IMO it’s fine just as it is. Especially, at the given price point.
Firmware update inquiries have been ridiculous.
I agree for the most part. I'm still enjoying mine. I think its the thought of all the neat goodies that Bob Gallien himself said the unit was capable of with a firmware update? The only new features I would be psyched for would be a cab sim, ability to tweak the overdrive further and perhaps more attack/release options for the compressor. While they did miss the end of May timeline that @TonyP- mentioned( there were delays with the new Legacy amps which is probably requiring more attention) I have a feeling IF the update comes out it will most likely be timed with the release of the Plex series of new amps. That is my hope anyway. :bassist::hyper:
Best wishes to all,
Brent

Has anyone been running an MBP cab (specifically the 212, but I'll take anything) from the Plex that cares to share how they like it/some tips and tricks they have come across?

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one (though I'm going to have a hard time giving up on my SWR/Eden rig) , but I'd like to hear from someone who has done it before if I can.

There is an issue with one of the aftermarket power supplies (on their end, not GK) that is being address as a hot fix. With that being said GK is addressing it as well in the update.

That seems like a cool setup idea. I'm curious, too.

Interesting.

I had an issue with running my Plex sharing a power supply with other effects (4 other pedals) and a One Spot. It would make all kinds of goofy loud electronic noises. I installed the supply that came with my Plex as a separate for just the Plex pedal and the problem went away.

Tony (a GK Artist) says there is an update coming and I believe him. All be it slow as Christmas.

The supply that came with my Plex failed after less than 2 years of use. It runs now on its own One Spot supply as it is noisy when in daisy chain

Yes I have been running a 212MBP from my Plex. It is alright but the bass has to be boosted significantly and the hi mid reduced for a pleasant sound from most of my basses

GK has promised this update for well over a year, with nothing to show for it. I received this email back early in March 2018:
"I'm expecting to see the new firmware in the next couple of weeks. The engineer had already completed many of the updates when I gave him the info from Strymon that it can take up to 2 seconds to provide full power, depending on the load it sees. The engineer is supposed to add a function to the firmware that looks for power after 2 seconds after initial input is seen."

The Compressor / Tuner footswitch, due to the silly requirement for a double-tap to enter tuner mode, broke on mine, and GK wouldn't or couldn't supply information on the specs for the microswitch. My Plex now sits barely used, and I wouldn't entertain buying a piece of GK gear again. Compare and contrast to Line 6, where they actually delivery regular firmware updates AND provide (at least in my experience) useful hardware support.

Have one coming next week.
Loved what I’ve heard.
Hated what I’ve been reading.
What did you read that makes you say that? Just curious.
The one thing that had me miffed for the first few days of using it was the hum/buzz I was getting when using cans. I figured out that if I ran the line out to my amp it silenced it.
Depending on the situation and the circumstances it could be a little cumbersome in a live situation until you get real familiar with the secondary functions of the knobs.
Aside from that, it's a great piece of kit.
