Considering how ubiquitous the jazz is for Japanese bassists it IS wild that they haven't had one. I think they are going to sell a million of these.

New Ibanez Mode series

Considering how ubiquitous the jazz is for Japanese bassists it IS wild that they haven't had one. I think they are going to sell a million of these.
Not that the world needs another Jazz Bass clone, but I like the looks of this one!
My guess is that Warwick producing Sadowsky Metro Express basses has been successful enough for Ibanez to seek a chunk of that market.
All Indonesian Ibanez are.
This is true but I do like that they are doing their own take on it instead of a more exact replica. There's enough modern appointments to really set it apart like the pre-amp system, monorail bridge, no pickguard on some models, etc.. Also, the body shape, although familiar, still has it's own style not to mention the inclusion of 24 frets. I dig it.
Damn this really is intriguing. The finger ramp is such a cool option, but the 5ers are light, 24 frets and have a really nice and modern sound to them.
Will be interested if the build quality is up to snuff. They added in all the features I'd ask for from a more boutique builder when looking for a 5 string active J.

For those who don't like the string spacing, they are adjustable +/- 1.5 mm at the bridge.

They are glorified Ads for sure. Ive never been able to take Gregor seriously because he can't play.
I think they already have a winner in that price range with the SR300 series basses. Honestly, my SR370EF fretless has become my favorite bass, even though it is also my least expensive. They got everything right in that model, for $475.Same here
I love Ibanez, but I hope they see enough to put out something like this in the $300-500 range. A basic, passive or minimal EQ J-bass (string spacing and pickup placement), but lighter and with a 1.5" nut akin to skinny J-bass necks. If I could get "J-bass lite" from them I might even pre-order one!!
Most of these new basses are competitive with my SR1350B ($1,500) but from the demos they sound better?
I'm just waiting to see if they release a fretless model, but doesn't look like it's in the cards, at least not yet.
Ever since Sadowsky hit the scene in the 1980s, there have been a gazillion takes on the “modern Jazz Bass” and many have been really fantastic (including, of course, Sadowsky!).
All of the comments that start with “It reminds me of….” demonstrate that Ibanez has deftly borrowed a lot of good ideas from all of these super jazzes and, because Ibanez knows how to make really good instruments at just about any price point, I can only imagine that they chose the right aspects of those other instruments to borrow both in terms of design and tone.
Sadowsky? Sire? Moon? Bacchus? Mayones? Yes! It reminds me a little bit of all of them. It even harkens a little bit to the original Guild Pilot.
Personally, I don’t really have a spot for one in my stable but I look forward to trying one when they hit the stores. They look like pretty nice instruments.

The fact that it's "hand built" in the custom shop in Japan apparently adds an absurd amount of $$$ to it. I'd almost bet they still CNC most of the bass, like all the others...

A few models of this current Mode series have reinforced necks and the price of them is not very different from rest ones.I hoped at least one of the four string basses to have one but there is none.This not a big problem because Ibanez bass nevks are very stable IMO.
I think Ibanez like other manufacturers go "vintage" to be modern but in Japanese way of vision.I am going to look forward to hear six strings Mode reviewed.
